Job description

The Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing daily shop operations in a fast‑paced, high‑volume Chevrolet-Buick-GMC dealership. This role serves as the technical leader for the service department, ensuring efficient workflow, quality repairs, and adherence to GM standards. The Shop Foreman supports technicians through coaching, diagnostics assistance, and process management while driving productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction.
 
JOB TITLE:      Shop Foreman
REPORTS TO: Service Director
LOCATION:      Cincinnati, OH 
 
A SHORT LIST OF YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shop Operations & Workflow
  • Manage and optimize daily workflow in a high‑volume service environment
  • Assign repair orders based on technician skill level and workload
  • Monitor cycle time, productivity, and efficiency to meet or exceed dealership targets
  • Ensure proper dispatching and prioritization of work, including warranty and internal repairs
Technical Leadership
  • Provide advanced diagnostic and repair support to technicians
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex vehicle issues
  • Ensure repairs are completed correctly the first time and in compliance with GM standards
  • Stay current on Chevrolet-Buick-GMC and GM technical bulletins, recalls, and service updates
Quality Control
  • Perform or oversee quality inspections before vehicle delivery
  • Ensure warranty repairs meet GM documentation and audit requirements
  • Reduce comebacks and improve overall repair quality
  • Consistently exceed GM Net Promoter Score (NPS) benchmarks. 
Team Development
  • Mentor, coach, and train technicians to improve skill levels and certifications
  • Support GM training initiatives and ASE advancement
  • Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and teamwork
Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce dealership safety policies and OSHA standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient shop environment
  • Ensure proper tool usage and equipment maintenance
Collaboration
  • Work closely with Service Advisors, Parts Department, and Management
  • Assist with estimating, technician productivity tracking, and problem resolution
  • Support customer satisfaction efforts when technical explanations are required
 
WE’RE LOOKING FOR A SELF-STARTER WHO MEETS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a high‑volume automotive repair shop
  • Proven leadership experience as a Lead Technician, Shop Foreman, or similar role
  • Strong diagnostic and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a servant leadership style
  • Monday-Friday and Saturday availability. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • GM dealership experience strongly preferred
  • GM Master Technician or equivalent certifications a plus
  • ASE Master Technician certification preferred
  • Experience with GM warranty procedures, documentation, and audits
  • Familiarity with dealership DMS systems (Tekion, CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, etc.)
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work in a shop environment for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, production‑driven setting
