As part of the Wealth Management Technology organization, the Lead Data Engineer, Apps Dev serves as a technical leader within the Annuity and Life Insurance Solutions team, supporting critical enterprise applications, data solutions, and business initiatives. This role is responsible for delivering scalable, secure, and efficient technology solutions that support business operations, application modernization, production stability, and strategic technology objectives across the Wealth Management department.
The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in Oracle database development, data engineering, application integration, and production support with strong technical leadership and problem-solving capabilities. This position plays a key role in supporting Annuity and Life Insurance initiatives, including application modernization, CSS decommissioning initiatives, platform enhancements, system decommission efforts, and ongoing operational excellence, while partnering closely with business and technology stakeholders to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions.
This role requires hands-on experience with Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, enterprise job scheduling platforms, automation, and modern software delivery practices. The Lead Data Engineer will lead technical design, development, implementation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives while promoting engineering best practices, supporting Agile delivery teams, and ensuring operational excellence across critical business applications. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong balance of technical expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills to influence outcomes, mentor team members, reduce operational risk, and drive the successful delivery of innovative technology solutions that support advisor, client, and business needs. The role also requires proficiency in leveraging AI-enabled engineering tools and practices to improve productivity, code quality, documentation, testing, and delivery efficiency while maintaining accountability for solution quality, security, and performance.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Solution Delivery
  • Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of scalable, high-performance data solutions supporting Annuity and Life Insurance applications.
  • Provide technical leadership across KTLO, RTB, and CTB initiatives, ensuring successful delivery of business and technology objectives.
  • Drive application modernization, CSS decommissioning initiatives, system enhancements, and technology improvement efforts while maintaining operational stability.
  • Mentor engineering team members and promote engineering excellence through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and best practices.

Oracle Database & Data Engineering
  • Design, develop, and optimize Oracle SQL, PL/SQL stored procedures, database packages, functions, and performance-tuned queries.
  • Perform database design, data modeling, performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning for enterprise applications.
  • Analyze and resolve complex data, database, and application performance issues to ensure reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain data integration solutions supporting business-critical processes and enterprise applications.

Application Development & Integration
  • Analyze business and system requirements to identify application interactions, data flows, dependencies, and integration points.
  • Translate functional and technical requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable application solutions.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, QA, DevOps, and Project Managers to deliver high-quality technology solutions.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, technical design reviews, and code reviews to ensure compliance with enterprise standards and engineering best practices.

Production Support & Operational Excellence
  • Provide technical leadership for production support activities across critical Annuity and Life Insurance applications.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Monitor application performance, data processing activities, and operational metrics to ensure platform stability, availability, and service continuity.
  • Support release management, deployment validation, operational readiness, disaster recovery planning, and ongoing system maintenance activities.

Batch Processing & Automation
  • Design, develop, and support enterprise batch-processing solutions utilizing BMC Control-M and related job scheduling platforms.
  • Manage job scheduling, workflow orchestration, monitoring, recovery processes, and operational support procedures to support critical business operations.
  • Identify automation opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions to streamline development, deployment, monitoring, and support processes.

AI-Enabled Engineering
  • Leverage AI-powered development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and Microsoft Copilot to improve productivity, code quality, documentation, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Apply AI-assisted engineering practices while maintaining accountability for solution accuracy, security, compliance, and maintainability.
  • Identify opportunities to utilize AI and automation technologies to enhance engineering effectiveness and business outcomes.
  • Promote responsible adoption of AI technologies within engineering teams through best practices and governance standards.

Collaboration & Strategic Partnership
  • Build strong partnerships across business and technology organizations to drive alignment, execution, and successful delivery of initiatives.
  • Support application modernization, system decommissioning, and strategic transformation programs, including impact assessments, dependency analysis, and implementation planning.
  • Communicate technical risks, recommendations, and solution approaches effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and develop proof-of-concepts that support innovation, continuous improvement, and long-term business objectives.
