Job description

Position Title: Assistant Director for Athletic Communications
Department: Athletics
Reports To: Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information and the Executive Vice President of Student and Athletic Affairs

The Assistant Director for Athletic Communications will serve as a secondary media relations contact for all 11 NJCAA-sponsored sports at Jones College. This position will coordinate communications efforts with the Assistant AD for Athletic Communications and proactively publicize all aspects of the athletic department. Duties include ensuring JCBobcats.com and all assigned sports digital and social media platforms are up-to-date in a timely manner to provide to fans and media. Also included is the designing, writing and editing of the football media guide, producing press releases, social content/pre and postgame score graphics, keeping and updating statistics and historical records.
1. Athletic Communications:
  • Writing and distributing press releases, feature stories and recaps.
  • Designing and issuing media credentials for home football games.
  • Actively pursue and execute award nominations for student-athletes, coaches and programs (NJCAA, NFCA, United Soccer Coaches, MACCC Player of the Week, etc.)
  • Send out bi-weekly e-newsletter of events/recaps over the time period.Taking pictures at select events and/or editing all pictures provided by photog(s).

2. Content Creation and Management:
  • Producing publications in Adobe InDesign like football media guide, game day roster printouts and recruiting brochures when requested (i.e. tennis, softball).
  • Updating and maintaining the athletic department website with news,
  • schedules, statistics and rosters.
  • Updating player bios for all sports, newcomers and returners, with in-depth info not always provided on the bio sheet the SID receives.
  • Use Google search, social media, high school websites, MAXPreps, etc. to find as much info as possible.
  • Managing social media accounts to promote the team/department and engage with fans. Also monitor all social media team accounts for correct usage.
  • Monitor social media conversations related to "Jones College" to share/repost content on Facebook, Instagram or X.
  • Create game highlights from JC-TV to clip in Adobe Premiere Pro and post on the athletic YouTube channel.
  • Generating video and graphic content for various platforms using BoxOut, Gipper, Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
  • Setting up video shoots with Jones College Marketing for content.
  • Updating all sport files on SIDEARM with four-year players, All-Americans, etc.
  • Selecting two JC Athletes of the Month each month for website.
  • Maintaining photo/video archives on OneDrive and on SmugMug Gallery for sale.

3. Statistics and Reporting:
  • Live scoring (STATCREW or Presto) football, soccer, basketball, baseball and softball home games. Presto scoresheet manual entry is required for the sports not being scored live. Entering match-by-match tennis stats in STATCREW is also required.
  • Must also know how to push said stats for live stats purposes through MACCC site.
  • All rosters and schedules must be entered in Presto/NJCAA for each season.
  • Maintaining statistics archives whether on JC website, Presto and/or stat laptops.
  • Compiling and reporting statistics for all sports to the NJCAA/Presto.

4. JCTV Livestream and Broadcast Operations:
  • Operate and manage live broadcasts for all assigned Jones College athletic events.
  • Coordinate pregame, in-game, halftime and postgame livestream production.
  • Ensure all livestreams begin on time and operate without interruption.
  • Set up, test and operate all cameras, replay systems, switchers, audio boards, computers, monitors, cabling and networking equipment forhome events.
  • Manage all broadcast production equipment setup and breakdown at athletic venues.
  • Operate and schedule all sponsor commercials, advertisements and promotional content during livestream broadcasts.
  • Ensure sponsor graphics, video advertisements and reads are displayed according to contractual obligations.
  • Operate replay software and systems during live athletic events.
  • Capture, organize and display instant replay highlights
  • Operate video boards and venue display systems at all Jones College athletic facilities.
  • Manage scoreboard integrations, graphics, animations, player introductions, sponsor advertisements and in-game entertainment
  • content.
  • Create and manage game graphics, score bugs, lower thirds, player statistics, starting lineups and promotional visuals.
  • Troubleshoot technical and production issues before and during live broadcasts.
  • Maintain organization and inventory of all JCTV equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with training and supervising student workers and broadcast assistants in livestream operations and game day production procedures.

5. Event Management Support:
  • Entering all events in HomeTown Ticketing and updating if weather moves an event.
  • Assisting with the logistical setup and breakdown of facilities for games and events.
  • Downloading and editing all music through Adobe Audition/YouTube for game day playlists. Includes cutting player walk-out songs for baseball/softball.
  • Must know how to turn on/off football video board, how to run graphics on board, create graphics for board and troubleshoot.
  • Able to run digital scorer's table at basketball/volleyball home contests.
  • Training and supervising staff, including student workers, in how to properly set up and breakdown for all home events.
  • Hiring and supervising game-day staff like scorekeepers, announcers, photographers and statisticians.
  • Ensuring smooth operation of press box/press table during events.

6. Marketing and Promotion:
  • Bi-monthly promotion of the BSN Sideline Store attached to jcbobcats.com. Working with BSN Sideline rep to post graphics on social media channels.
  • Bi-monthly meetings with JC Marketing Team to discuss ideas/collaborations.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to promote the athletic program and events (giveaways with Cane's, Jack's and other businesses at home games). Includes coordinating with marketing team on promotional materials and events.
  • Updating all coach bios every summer and archiving coaches that leave.
  • Responsible for coordinating and/or designing pocket schedules/poster schedules.
  • Maintain logo database in BoxOut/Gipper and create requested graphics.
  • Keeping Howard Sports Complex kiosk updated with upcoming events.

7. Additional Duties:
  • Involvement in fundraising efforts, special events and Jones Athletic Hall of Fame.
  • Sitting in on football game day and postseason hosting meetings.
  • Overseeing all student workers and ensuring timecards are submitted
  • correctly before each closing pay period.
  • Design, print and laminate bag tags for multiple sports that request them.
  • Assist the Jones College Athletic Foundation with any requests they have.

*This position will report directly to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information and the Executive Vice President of Student and Athletic Affairs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or 3 years of experience related field preferred.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to independently seek out and develop meaningful feature stories.
  • Basic photography skills and familiarity with digital content creation.
