Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:ย  Infection Control Data Abstractor works under the direction of the Infection Control Practitioner and is accountable for abstracting, compiling, monitoring and reporting data from multiple electronic and non-electronic systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.ย ย ย  Performs surveillance for healthcare acquired infections by monitoring and evaluating infection control data

2.ย ย ย  Monitors and reports communicable diseases as mandated by the public health department

3.ย ย ย  Compiles, monitors and reports Infection Control data

4.ย ย ย  Willingly assists in the performance of other duties as delegated by Infection Control Practitioner (e.g. during periods of increased workload or absence of another employee).

ย EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

1.ย ย ย ย ย  Current licensure to practice licensed vocational nursing in the State of California.

2.ย ย ย  Two years experience of clinical nursing in a hospital setting preferred.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

1.ย ย ย  Ability to analyze, interpret, summarize data into information for reporting findings.

2.ย ย ย  Ability to graphically display data using various formats preferred

3.ย ย ย  Strong analytical and problem solving skills

4.ย ย ย  Effective professional writing and interpersonal communications skills

5.ย ย ย  Knowledge of computer software programs Word, Excel, E-mail, Power Point, and the internet/intranet

6.ย ย ย  Knowledge of Midas, eCW, Quadra-Med QCPR and Affinity; preferred

7.ย ย ย  Knowledge of DNV NIAHO Standards, Title 22, Conditions of Participation and ISO 9001-2008

8.ย ย ย  Time management skills, self-directed with time management skills.

9.ย ย ย  Ability to interact effectively with all customers, including but not limited to physicians, staff, patients, visitors, and surveyors

10. Maintains confidentiality of all information handled.ย 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1.ย ย ย  Visual and hearing acuity adequate for reading and interpreting medical record data and communicating with providers, clinical staff, customers and teams

2.ย ย ย  The majority of the work is done in an office setting.ย  Prolonged sitting and keyboarding is required.

3.ย ย ย  Lifting at least 20 pounds.

4.ย ย ย  Manual dexterity with fine motor ability to operate and handle complex computerized equipment.

SCHEDULING AND AVAILABLITY:

1.ย ย ย  40 hours per week

2.ย ย ย  Flexibility expected when major organizational projects are underway

3.ย ย ย  Available to respond to emergency situations
