Laser Operator

Location: Granite City, Illinois

Company: Friedman Industries, Inc.

Position Summary

Friedman Industries is seeking a Laser Operator to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for setting up and operating fiber laser equipment to produce quality parts that meet customer and production requirements. The Laser Operator will support the complete laser cutting process, from material preparation and machine setup through part processing and completion.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate fiber laser equipment to safely and efficiently produce parts according to specifications and production schedules.
  • Load and unload material as required for production runs.
  • Review work orders, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate processing.
  • Make program edits and machine adjustments as needed to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Inspect and measure completed parts to verify conformance with specifications and tolerances.
  • Change consumables and perform routine machine adjustments and maintenance.
  • Prepare finished parts for shipment as workload permits.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts, as needed.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and company procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications
  • 13 years of CNC laser operating experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with fiber laser equipment and sheet metal processing preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders.
  • Experience with laser programming, nesting software, or CNC controls is a plus.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently after training and manage assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment around machinery and moving equipment.
