Job description

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc. (SGA) is searching for a w2 Principal Financial Systems Engineer (Python / AWS) for a Direct Hire opportunity with one of our premier investment management clients in Atlanta, GA. This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence 4 days per week.
This is full-time permanent role with visa restrictions.
Client cannot sponsor Visas now or in the future.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role supporting the firm's Custom Separately Managed Accounts (SMA) business and Financial Systems portfolio. The ideal candidate is an experienced Principal Engineer who combines deep software engineering expertise with cloud-native application development, solution architecture, enterprise integration, and technical leadership. You will partner closely with business leaders, architects, and engineering teams to deliver scalable, high-quality financial technology solutions while driving engineering best practices across a global organization.
Responsibilities :
  • Lead the architecture, design, and delivery of enterprise Financial Systems solutions.
  • Serve as the technical leader for cloud-native applications, distributed systems, and microservices.
  • Remain hands-on with software development using Python while mentoring engineering teams.
  • Design and review scalable technical solutions aligned with business objectives and enterprise architecture standards.
  • Lead solution design workshops with business and technology stakeholders.
  • Define architecture principles and evaluate technology options for long-term scalability.
  • Develop cloud-native applications utilizing AWS services including Lambda, S3, EKS, and SQS.
  • Design and support containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines utilizing Git and Bitbucket Pipelines.
  • Design and implement REST API integrations and enterprise application interfaces.
  • Promote Agile, DevOps, Test Driven Development (TDD), automation, and engineering excellence.
  • Reduce technical debt while improving application quality, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and provide ongoing application support.
  • Participate in software evaluations, architecture reviews, and technology selection initiatives.
  • Develop technical documentation, solution designs, and test strategies.
  • Support unit, integration, system, regression, and automated testing efforts.
  • Collaborate with architects, QA teams, developers, and business partners throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Support business users through application enhancements, issue resolution, and technology consulting.
Required Skills:
  • 8+ years of enterprise software engineering or application development experience.
  • Expert-level Python development experience.
  • Strong AWS experience including Lambda, S3, EKS, and SQS.
  • Experience designing and developing distributed systems and microservices.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  • Strong Git and Bitbucket Pipelines experience.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines and supporting DevOps practices.
  • Experience integrating enterprise applications using REST APIs.
  • Experience with enterprise scheduling platforms such as Airflow or AutoSys.
  • Strong solution architecture and technical design experience.
  • Experience leading technical teams and mentoring engineers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Experience across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Ability to work independently within a fast-paced Agile environment.
Preferred Skills:
  • Investment Management or Asset Management industry experience.
  • Financial Systems or Accounting application experience.
  • Experience with MuleSoft or other enterprise integration technologies.
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience with pair programming and modern engineering practices.
  • Understanding of Finance and Accounting business processes.
  • Experience working within global enterprise organizations.
