Description:

Job Summary

Apply knowledge of measurement science, mathematics, physics, and electronics to calibrate inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM & TE) in the electrical, dimensional, optical, physical, mechanical, environmental, and/or chemical disciplines to ensure measurement accuracy. Identify and utilize appropriate measurement procedures. Perform corrective actions to address identified measurement problems. Adapt equipment, standards, and procedure to accomplish unique measurements. Maintain calibration standards. Perform laboratory and/or departmental housekeeping.


Role and Responsibilities

  • Calibrate inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM & TE) in order to ensure compliance with published specifications in one of the following disciplines: electrical, dimensional, optical, physical/mechanical and chemical
  • Maintain primary and/or intrinsic calibration standards
  • Maintain secondary and/or working calibration standards
  • Collect, compile, measure, summarize, and record data gathered during calibration
  • Analyze measurement data for identifying abnormalities trends and/or predicting future values
  • Identifying IM & TE out-of-tolerance conditions and perform corrective action via adjustments, component replacement, correction factors, etc.
  • Identify and correct measurement errors, as applicable
  • Prepare calibration reports and certificates
  • Recommend IM & TE for use in measurement applications
  • Adapt existing calibration equipment, standards and techniques to accomplish unique measurements tasks for which they are not principally used
  • Train subordinates in calibration concepts and procedures
  • Perform lab housekeeping
  • Maintain laboratory recognition/accreditation
  • Provide technical advice to the other departments of the organization
  • Calibrate and repair IM & TE for measurement area assigned in a laboratory setting
  • Operate various lab instruments
Requirements:

Educational / Training Requirements

  • Two years of experience in measurement & calibration and at least 1 of the following:
    • Civilian or military training with a working knowledge or demonstrated capacity to comprehend metrology, or
    • Military precision measurement equipment laboratory (PMEL) experience, or
    • Certificate of completion as a certified calibration technician or other related course.

Additional skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Ability to recognize problems through troubleshooting and determine solution
  • Ability to determine tools and equipment needed to complete a job

Additional requirements

  • Must have a valid driverโ€™s license
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening test
  • Must be able to pass a background pre-employment check

Environment

This job operates in a professional laboratory environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, as well as laboratory test equipment under controlled environmental conditions.


Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.


Physical requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes weighing up to 50lbs up to 8-10 hours per day
  • Ability to work on and climb ladders and stairs frequently
  • Bending/squatting/kneeling/stooping/crouching/crawling/twisting up and walking up to 8-10 hours per day
  • Standing- must be able to stand or sit in one place up to 8-10 hours per day
  • Hearing-periodically must be able to work in loud environments
