Contracting specialists are responsible for the contracting process and ensure every detail is covered. They help prepare, negotiate and award contracts to qualified companies. They also ensure the money we spend is used appropriately, fiscally responsible and above reproach.

What You'll Do

  • Acquire supplies and services for the USAF and supported mission partners.
  • Acquire and support war-fighter capabilities.
  • Develop business arrangements, promote competition and conduct business ethically.
  • Prepare and send solicitation documents to companies for price quotes
  • Timely delivery of the best value product or service to the customer while fulfilling public policy objectives.
  • Lead multifunctional teams to resolve all contractual issues.

Key Things To Consider Requirements

You must meet several requirements before joining the Air Force. These concern your background, overall health and other standards set by the Air Force, Department of Defense and federal law.

  • You must be 17–42 years of age, a U.S. citizen and obtain a qualifying ASVAB score. High School Students may start their application as early as the end of their junior year. Applicants who are non-graduates or non-alternate credential holders must obtain an AFQT Test score of 65 or higher on the ASVAB.
  • 72 General (G)
    • Completion of 24 semester hours of business related subjects
    • Ability to communicate effectively in writing
    • Ability to speak distinctly
    • No prior conviction of court martial or nonjudicial punishment for dereliction in the performance of duties involving contracting activities, larceny, misappropriation of funds or property or financial irresponsibility.
    • Never been convicted by a civilian court of a Category 1, 2 or 3 offense
    • Completion of 7.5 weeks of Basic Military Training
    • Must be at least 17, but has not reached age 42 on the date of enlistment
