Job description

Scope of Work: 

The Engineering Manager oversees a team responsible for completing construction projects. They ensure timely, detailed coordination and installation designs for electrical systems, adhering to standards and best practices via a Virtual Design Platform. They collaborate with project teams and customers to provide innovative, cost-effective solutions while maintaining Gaylor Electric standards. The manager supervises skilled professionals on various nationwide electrical projects, ranging from $1 million to $400 million, including Design Build, Plans and Specs, and Design Assist contracts. Projects span Mission Critical, Warehouse Distribution, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Multifamily, and Hospitality sectors.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Lead multiple projects during preconstruction phases, managing Design Engineers and Virtual Design team members.
  • Code Compliance: Maintain knowledge of relevant codes and standards, ensuring all designs comply with best practices.
  • Technical Calculations: Perform and review load, voltage drop, short circuit, and lighting calculations.
  • Team Management: Oversee and mentor a team of Design Engineers and Virtual Designers, ensuring accurate development and maintenance of project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Training and Development: Manage onboarding and training for new team members and assist in developing new best practices and procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work with Architects, Engineers, MEP subcontractors, clients, consultants, and project personnel; attend project meetings.
  • Documentation: Review legal contracts, BIM Execution Plans, scopes of work, specifications, plans, and jurisdictional codes to ensure cost-effective, compliant designs.
  • Drawing Development: Create coordination and installation drawings per Gaylor Electric Best Practices.
  • Coordination and Design: Provide documents for Temporary Power, Distribution, Underground, Structure, Site, Common areas, Detailed Units Wiring, Value Engineering, peer review, and job site coordination.
  • Compliance and Performance: Ensure financial and quality compliance and performance of the region.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: High school graduate, holder of G.E.D., or equivalent studies/experience. Graduate of Construction Management or Construction Technology program preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Revit Certification (or) 5+ years of relevant professional experience 
    • 10+ years preferred of relevant electrical experience and completion of the Virtual Designer career development plan.
    • Experience as a supervisor with an Electrical contractor is preferred.
    • Must have proven knowledge of the National Electrical Code and be familiar with IBC, IECC and life safety codes.
    • Proven organizational and management skills.
    • Proficiency with Engineering & Virtual Design Software platforms, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Collaborate Pro, Autodesk Build, Autodesk Docs, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360 Glue, etc. 
    • Ability to prioritize and require minimal supervision.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Ability to travel when needed.
    • Ability to lead Electrical Design discussions.
    • Ability to evaluate Plans and Specs, Bid Build projects, recommend cost savings and Value Engineering solutions.
