SEIBI Technician – Automotive Manufacturing

Job Type: Full-Time Contract
Travel: Up to 50% domestic & international (depending on assignment)
Overtime: 20–25% typical based on project needs

About the SEIBI Role

SEIBI Technicians play a critical role in equipment verification, installation readiness, production trial support, and equipment confirmation across both new model programs and ongoing production operations.

Assignments may include:

  • Paint shop automation & robotics
  • Battery pack assembly systems
  • Vehicle manufacturing equipment
  • Conveyors, torque tools, logistics automation, and safety interlocks

This is a hands-on, technical field role that works closely with engineers, vendors, suppliers, and plant teams to ensure safety, quality, and productivity targets are achieved.

Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment & Process Support
  • Support equipment installation, commissioning, and trial-based confirmations
  • Perform Seibi checks for Safety, Electrical, and Mechanical design compliance
  • Verify equipment against Toyota standards and production requirements
  • Review mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, and safety interlock logic
  • Support adjustments to meet targets for Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Productivity
Robotics & Controls (Paint, Assembly, Pack, etc.)
  • Online robot programming (e.g., paint robots, sealing, UBC, dampening, material handling)
  • Offline robot simulation, reach studies, and cycle time analysis
  • Evaluate and adjust robot paths, parameters, and quality outcomes
PLC, Controls & Industrial Automation
  • Support PLC programming and troubleshooting (Toyopuc, Allen Bradley, Omron, Siemens)
  • Assist with vision systems (Keyence or similar), sensors, I/O, safety relays, and device tests
  • Confirm conveyor, AGV/AMR, and material handling hardware operation
Vendor Trials & Buyoffs
  • Perform Seibi confirmations during vendor buyoff trials
  • Support equipment evaluations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Japan
  • Validate safety, cycle times, operation availability, and equipment quality
Documentation & Communication
  • Create handover documents, snapshots, and process confirmation records
  • Maintain detailed reports, checklists, KPIs, and punchlist items
  • Communicate effectively with engineering, vendors, and global teams
Required Qualifications
  • 2-year technical degree, trade school certification, or 3+ years equivalent technical experience
  • Hands-on experience with industrial equipment installation, troubleshooting, or commissioning
  • Ability to read mechanical/electrical drawings
  • Experience with PLC programming or troubleshooting (Toyopuc, AB, Omron, Siemens)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams)
  • Ability to work overtime (up to ~25%) and support weekend/holiday work when required
  • Ability to travel domestically & internationally (up to 50% during peak project phases)
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with robotics (Kawasaki, Fanuc, Yaskawa) — paint or assembly applications
  • Digital engineering tools: CATIA, Delmia, SolidWorks, Inventor
  • Experience with manufacturing equipment procurement, layouts, or commissioning
  • Experience with vision systems (Keyence, Cognex, etc.)
  • Exposure to AGVs/AMRs and traffic control systems
  • Automotive or high-volume manufacturing background
  • Additional technical certifications
Work Environment & PPE
  • Automotive manufacturing plant environment
  • Follow all PPE requirements: steel-toe footwear, safety glasses, protective headwear (and additional PPE as required)
