What is contract teletherapy?

Contract teletherapy refers to providing therapy services remotely, typically via video calls or phone, on a contractual basis rather than as a full-time employee. Teletherapists work with clients in various settings, such as schools, clinics, or private practices, delivering services like speech, occupational, or mental health therapy. As contractors, they often have flexible schedules and may work with multiple organizations or clients. This arrangement allows therapists to reach clients in underserved or remote areas, improving access to care.

What are some common challenges faced by contract teletherapists, and how can they be managed effectively?

Contract teletherapists often face challenges such as managing their own schedules, ensuring reliable technology for virtual sessions, and maintaining clear communication with clients outside a traditional office environment. To manage these effectively, it's important to establish a dedicated workspace, use secure and user-friendly telehealth platforms, and set clear expectations with clients regarding availability and response times. Staying organized and proactively addressing technical or administrative issues helps maintain a high standard of care and a positive client experience.

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced and mission-driven Psychiatrist to join our specialized mental health network as a 1099 independent contractor. This critical role serves a dual purpose: providing direct, expert psychiatric care to veterans and providing clinical supervision to a dedicated team of Nurse Practitioners (NPs) serving the same population. The ideal candidate is a leader, clinician, and collaborator who is deeply comfortable managing complex psychiatric conditions, including high-risk presentations.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Clinical Care (Approx. 60%):

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for veterans.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized medication management plans.
  • Provide brief supportive therapy and psychoeducation integrated with pharmacotherapy.
  • Demonstrate expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of suicidality, self-harm ideation, and complex trauma (PTSD).
  • Manage psychiatric comorbidities common in veteran populations (e.g., PTSD, MDD, Anxiety, TBI, Substance Use Disorders).
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation in our secure EHR.

Clinical Supervision & Leadership (Approx. 40% PAID):

  • Provide scheduled, structured clinical supervision to a team of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs).
  • Review cases, provide guidance on diagnosis, treatment planning, and pharmacologic interventions.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices, clinical guidelines, and organizational protocols, particularly regarding risk management.
  • Support the professional development and competency of the NP team in veteran-centric care.
  • Be available for urgent clinical consultation to the NP team as needed.
  • Collaborate with the clinical leadership team on program development and quality improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry.
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in your state of residence and eligibility for licensure in multiple states (as required).
  • Active DEA registration.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-residency experience practicing psychiatry.
  • Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience treating veteran, active-duty, or military-connected populations.
  • Proven experience and skill in managing high-acuity patients, including advanced competency in suicide risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Formal experience providing clinical supervision to mid-level providers (NPs/PAs).
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and pharmacotherapy for PTSD.
  • Must carry own professional liability insurance (malpractice) with minimum coverage of
    1M/1M/3M.
Highly Desired Qualifications:
  • Prior military service or experience working within the VA/DoD system.
  • Added qualifications or significant experience in Addiction Psychiatry.
  • Experience with telepsychiatry platforms and hybrid care models.
  • Training in evidence-based psychotherapies (e.g., CBT, CPT).
What We Offer (1099 Contractor):
  • Highly Competitive Compensation: A substantial hourly or per-session rate commensurate with this senior, dual-role position PAID supervision per NP on team.
  • Flexible Schedule: Ability to set your own clinical and supervision hours.
  • Administrative Burden Removed: We handle client onboarding, billing, insurance, and marketing.
  • Supportive Infrastructure: Access to a secure EHR, teletherapy platform, and IT support.
  • Focused Mission: Lead and contribute to a program dedicated exclusively to veteran mental health.
  • Collaborative Environment: Connect with a network of dedicated therapists and clinicians.
Commitment to Care:
We believe in providing unwavering support to our nation's veterans. We seek clinicians who share this commitment and possess the clinical fortitude to engage with serious mental health concerns with skill, empathy, and professionalism.
