Job description

We are looking for an experienced Firmware Engineer to support the design and delivery of advanced embedded products in Wisconsin. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for a senior-level candidate who enjoys building robust firmware, shaping technical direction, and partnering closely with multidisciplinary teams throughout development and release. The role offers hands-on involvement across architecture, implementation, testing, and product improvement in an onsite engineering environment.
Responsibilities:
• Architect, build, and enhance embedded firmware for sophisticated electronic devices across the full product lifecycle.
• Guide software development activities from early design through production launch, sustainment, and continuous improvement.
• Produce efficient, dependable code in C and C++ for embedded platforms with limited memory and processing resources.
• Create and verify embedded software solutions using MATLAB and Simulink to support model-based development efforts.
• Partner with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, test, and product stakeholders to deliver cohesive system-level results.
• Implement and support embedded communication interfaces, including wireless and peripheral protocols used in connected devices.
• Diagnose firmware and hardware integration issues through structured debugging, verification, and root-cause investigation.
• Develop internal tools, automation scripts, and test utilities using Python and C++ to improve engineering efficiency and product quality.
• Contribute to manufacturing validation and end-of-line test approaches that strengthen reliability, consistency, and performance.
• Help define software engineering best practices, technical documentation expectations, and effective validation methods.• At least 8 years of experience developing embedded firmware for electronic products.
• Strong hands-on expertise with C programming in embedded systems environments.
• Practical experience working with microcontrollers, real-time behavior, and low-level hardware interfaces.
• Proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink for embedded application development and validation.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex issues involving firmware, hardware, and system integration.
• Experience collaborating within cross-functional engineering teams in a product development setting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• Additional experience with Bluetooth, C++, Python scripting, RTOS platforms, bootloaders, embedded security, or edge computing is valued.
