Specialty Software Engineer - SmallTalk - Hybrid

Genesis10 is currently seeking a Specialty Software Engineer - SmallTalk - Hybrid for a contract position with a Global Financial Institution located in Wilmington, DE; Iselin, NJ; Charlotte, NC; Phoenix, AZ; or Irving, TX. This is an 18+ month contract opportunity.

This role is part of a team working to modernize legacy applications used for credit card servicing. The ideal candidate will act as a senior member of a scrum team, supporting existing SmallTalk applications while modernizing them to Java, with a focus on the backend. This position follows a hybrid schedule, requiring 3 days in the office per week.

Responsibilities:
  • Consult on and participate in moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within Specialty Software Engineering
  • Contribute to large-scale planning related to engineering deliverables
  • Review and analyze moderately complex software engineering challenges
  • Contribute to the resolution of complex issues and consult with others to meet deliverables
  • Work on a scrum team, completing assigned stories in 2-week sprints
  • Collaborate with client personnel in Specialty Software Engineering
Requirements:
  • 5 years of SmallTalk development experience
  • 4 years of Specialty Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work or consulting experience, training, military experience, or education
  • Clear understanding of OOPS techniques and design principles
  • Ability to package and deploy applications built with SmallTalk in non-production environments
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Detail-oriented and able to multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to learn the business quickly
Desired skills:
  • Full Stack Java experience, particularly with backend development
  • Microsoft SQL Server as database exposure
  • Experience with UI based on React

Pay range: $57.81 - $65.81 per hour
