Job description

Job Summary

The Virtual IEP Writer (Individualized Education Plan Writer) will create, update, and manage legally binding educational plans for students with special needs. They will evaluate student data, consult with teachers, therapists, and parents, and write customized learning plans designed to support each student's unique academic and developmental growth. Note: this position requires an active Illinois Professional Educator License with an LBS1 endorsement.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop clear, measurable, and standards-aligned IEP goals and objectives tailored to each student’s unique educational and developmental needs.
  • Partner virtually with general education teachers, special education staff, therapists, parents, and other school personnel to collect comprehensive evaluation data and progress metrics.
  • Attend, document, and occasionally facilitate virtual or phone-based IEP team meetings, ensuring all decisions and accommodations are accurately recorded.
  • Track and monitor strict compliance timelines for initial evaluations, annual reviews, triennial re-evaluations, accommodations, and transition plans.
  • Navigate and maintain accurate student records utilizing digital student information systems and special education management software.
  • Outline appropriate classroom accommodations, testing modifications, and related services to guarantee equitable learning access for all caseload students.
 

Required Skills/Abilities/Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education 
  • Active Illinois Professional Educator License with a valid LBS1 endorsement
  • Proven experience drafting compliant, high-quality IEPs within a public school or charter network setting.
  • Proficiency with digital SSM IEP management systems
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for effective remote collaboration with families and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and strict attention to compliance deadlines.
  • Reliable high-speed internet and a dedicated remote workspace.
 

Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
