Our client, a leading utility organization, is seeking a Director of Risk & Insurance to provide strategic leadership over enterprise risk management, insurance programs, risk governance, and operational risk initiatives. This executive-level position will be responsible for developing and advancing a proactive risk culture throughout the organization while ensuring risks are identified, evaluated, mitigated, and aligned with the companyโs strategic objectives.
The Director of Risk & Insurance will partner with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to oversee comprehensive risk management strategies, including enterprise risk management (ERM), insurance, market risk, credit risk, business continuity, and risk reporting. This individual will play a critical role in strengthening risk awareness across the organization and ensuring the utility remains resilient in a highly regulated and evolving industry.

We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Permanent Director, Risk and Insurance who will play a crucial role in our organization's risk management and insurance strategies. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and shape the direction of the company's risk management and insurance program. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and assessing potential risks, developing and implementing risk management strategies, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. This position comes with a generous relocation package.
Responsibilities
- Developing and executing comprehensive risk management and insurance strategies that align with the company's overall business objectives.
- Identifying and assessing potential risks and developing effective mitigation strategies to minimize their impact on the organization.
- Managing the company's insurance programs, including negotiating with insurers and brokers to secure optimal coverage and pricing.
- Overseeing the company's risk management and insurance budget, and ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and contractual obligations related to risk management and insurance.
- Leading audit processes related to risk management and insurance, and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate risk management and insurance considerations into business decisions and processes.
- Providing expert advice and guidance to senior management on risk management and insurance matters.
- Keeping abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in risk management and insurance, and leveraging this knowledge to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant professional certifications (such as CRM, ARM, or CIC) will be an advantage.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in risk management and insurance, including experience in contracts, audit, and compliance.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing effective risk management and insurance strategies.
- In-depth knowledge of risk assessment methods, insurance products and coverage, and relevant regulations and standards.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to secure optimal insurance coverage and pricing.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex risk management and insurance concepts to non-experts.
- High degree of professionalism and integrity, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
- Ability to adapt to changes in the business environment and regulatory landscape, and to drive change and innovation in the area of risk management and insurance.
