Job description

Hampton Roads Transit is looking for dynamic, customer service oriented, and energetic people to become part of a committed team providing excellent and effective public transportation to the Hampton Roads region. Salary Range: $72,678 - $92,664
Essential Job Functions:
(Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor to limit duties that might reasonably be assigned)
Project Coordinator will:
  • Provide project coordination support for HRT transit projects, including capital improvements, facilities, and system enhancements.
  • Assist Project Managers with project schedules, task tracking, budget, purchase orders and milestone reporting
  • Coordinate meetings with internal departments, local jurisdictions, consultants, contractors, and regional partners
  • Prepare agendas, presentations, reports, correspondence and meeting minutes as needed to support the various projects
  • Maintain accurate and organized project files in compliance with HRT Records Management Policies and Procedures
  • Support procurement activities, including RFPs, RFQs, IFBs, contract administration and contractor coordination
  • Assist with monitoring project risks, issues, and change requests
  • Support compliance with FTA, DRPT and local requirements, including ADA, Title VI, NEPA and safety related documentation
  • Assist with public outreach, stakeholder coordination, and interagency coordination as required
  • Manage records created and received in compliance with the Hampton Roads Transit Records Management Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills essential to Job Functions:
Knowledge
  • Principles and practices of project coordination and project management
  • Public transportation systems and transit operations, including bus, paratransit, ferry, and rail services
  • Public-sector project delivery processes
  • Federal, state, and local regulations applicable to public transit, including FTA grant requirements

Required Software Knowledge and Skills essential to Job Functions:
Proficiency in using computer systems and the listed software applications associated with performance of assigned work is required. Basic problem-solving skills associated with software applications is expected. Software usage relevant to job duties will be evaluated.
Software applications:
Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; The position requires proficiency in using software programs such as Primavera or Microsoft Project for project scheduling and schedule analysis, and experience using software for cost estimating and cost analysis. Experience with online project collaboration software a plus.
Safety Responsibility:
Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Ensure all employees and contractors are properly trained and understand all rules, safety policies, and procedures to perform their work functions safely. Promote safety awareness by attending safety committee meetings and adhering to all safety procedures and policies. Actively conduct workplace hazard analyses for all employees to maintain a safe work environment. Encourage employee safety reporting program and communication of hazards to the Safety Department. Responsible for the timely mitigation of all unacceptable and undesirable safety risks. Accountable for safety performance within their functional area and achieving the agency's safety goals.
Qualifications:
Training and/or Education:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Transportation Planning, Engineering, Project Management, Public Administration, Construction Management, or a related field.
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Required Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in project management, engineering, construction management, public administration or closely related field with at least five (5) years' work experience coordinating capital projects. Experience supporting transportation or transit-related projects is preferred. Also, experience working with public agencies, regional authorities or federally funded projects is desirable.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to effectively interact and maintain relationships with people of diverse cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. Advanced knowledge of contract administration techniques and principles. Ability to prioritize and multitask. Ability to use computer hardware, computer-based project management systems, various software programs and technologies. Ability to work individually or as a team member. Analytical skills. Skill in responding to frequently changing work responsibilities. Decision-making skills. Advanced knowledge of scheduling techniques, including development, analysis and implementation. Advanced problem-solving skills. Knowledge of project specific budgeting techniques and principles. Financial accountability. Skill in developing and monitoring multiple project budgets. Skill in reporting budget/cost estimate. Ability to implement change. Knowledge of and skill in change management techniques and methodologies.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with alternative delivery methods a plus
  • Experience in managing a range of project types up to $100M

Licenses or Certificates:
Possess a valid Driver's License. Acquire a Virginia Driver's License within 60 days after the date of hire (in instances when an out of state license is not the applicant's current state of residence).
