Technical Project Manager /ย Scrumย Master, Appian Preferred

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager /ย Scrumย Master to lead Agile software delivery projects, with a strong preference for candidates who have managedย cross-functional teams to deliverย Appian, low-code/no-code, BPM, workflow automation, or enterprise application development projects. The ideal candidate understands the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, solution design,ย human-centered design activities, development, testing, deployment, release management,ย change management and communications for users, and production support.

This role requires a hands-on technical project leader who can work effectively with business stakeholders, product owners, architects, developers, QA teams, DevOps teams, and client leadership to deliver high-quality software solutions on time, within scope, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

Scrumย Master Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Agile/Scrum/SAFeย ceremonies, including Daily Stand-ups, Sprintย & PIย Planning, Sprint Reviews, Backlog Refinement, and Retrospectives.
  • Coach development teams on Agile principles,ย Scrumย practices, Kanban workflows, and continuous improvement.
  • Remove blockers and escalate impediments that affect sprint progress, delivery timelines, or team productivity.
  • Trackย dailyย sprint progress, velocity, burn-down charts, backlog health, and team capacity.
  • Support Product Owners and Business Analysts in backlog grooming, user story refinement, acceptance criteria definition, and sprint readiness.
  • Promote collaboration, transparency, accountability, and communication across business, technical, and leadership teams.
  • Project Management Responsibilities
  • Plan, execute, monitor, and close software development projects from initiation through production deployment.
  • Define project scope, schedule, milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks, assumptions, and resource needs.
  • Coordinate cross-functional work across business stakeholders, Appian developers, software developers, QA testers, architects, DevOps engineers, and implementation teams.
  • Manage project risks, issues, dependencies, change requests, action items, and decision logs.
  • Prepare project status reports, dashboards, sprint metrics, release plans, RAID logs, and executive briefings.
  • Lead project delivery using Agile, hybrid Agile, or SDLC-based methodologies based on client and project needs.
  • Support release planning, production deployment coordination, user acceptance testing, defect triage, and post-release stabilization.

Technical Project Management Responsibilities

  • Understand and manage projects involving Appian applications, business process management, workflow automation, case management, integrations, and enterprise application development.
  • Work with technical teams to track design, configuration, development, testing, integration, deployment, and production support activities.
  • Translate business objectives into clear technical delivery plans, sprint goals, milestones, and measurable outcomes.
  • Coordinate technical discussions related to system architecture, data flows, API integrations, security, environments, testing strategy, deployment readiness, and operational support.
  • Manage SDLC activities including requirements gathering,ย product roadmap updates, design review, development tracking, test planning, defect managementย and triage, code promotion, release readiness, and production implementation.
  • Work with teams using Jira, Confluence,ย Mural, Figma,ย Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, Git, Jenkins, or similar project delivery, collaboration, and DevOps tools.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience as a Project Manager, Technical Project Manager,ย Scrumย Master, or Agile Delivery Lead.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies, including Agile,ย SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery models.
  • Experience managing software development projects involving requirements, design, development, testing, deployment,ย change management, and production support.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience coordinating developers, QA testers, business analysts, architects, DevOps teams, and product ownersย in a federal contracting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile metrics, sprint reporting, backlog tracking, risk management, and delivery forecasting.
  • Experience using tools such as Jira, Confluence,ย Mural, Figma,ย Azure DevOps, Trello, ServiceNow, or similar platforms.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, deadlines, and stakeholder expectations simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing Appian projects is highly preferred.
  • Experience with Appian BPM, low-code/no-code platforms, workflow automation, case management, or enterprise business applications is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting Appian delivery activities such as process modeling, user story development, integration coordination, testing, deployment, and release management.
  • Experience working with federal government, healthcare, financial management, grants management, procurement, or enterprise workflow systems.
  • Scrumย certifications such as CSM, PSM, SAFeย Scrumย Master, or SAFe Agilist.
  • PMP,ย PMI-ACP, or PRINCE2 certification is a plus.
  • Experience working with distributed, remote, or offshore development teams.
  • Knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD, test automation, API integrations, cloud platforms, and security compliance is a plus.
