Position Summary:
The following are indicative of the essential functions required to perform this job successfully. Community Phone Bankers/Canvasser:
  • Voter Contact: Make high-volume outbound calls (or, in some cases, peer-to-peer texts) to registered voters using a provided script and platform.
  • Data Collection: Accurately record and input voter responses, demographic information, and key data points into the campaign database.
  • Education: Effectively deliver campaign messaging, articulate the organization's platform, and address common questions or concerns of the voter.
  • Mobilization: Identify and recruit committed supporters to take action.
  • Compliance: Adhere strictly to campaign guidelines, calling scripts, and all relevant calling regulations.

Community Door-Knocking Canvassers:
  • Voter Contact: In-person door-knocking in targeted neighborhoods in Montgomery County to talk to voters about economic and social disparities happening in their communities
  • Data Collection: Correctly and completely tracking data from the conversations we have on the doors
  • Education: Engaging community members in conversation about the issues impacting them and their families
  • Mobilization: Build relationships and organize diverse communities
  • Community: Sharing personal stories about key topics to connect with the experiences of those we talk to

Experiences & Skill Requirements:
  • Alignment with TEA's mission and values
  • Prior canvassing and/or phone banking experience, paid or as a volunteer, preferred
  • Must be able to walk/stand for long periods of time (when canvassing)
  • Must be able to learn and effectively communicate talking points about key issues
  • COVID-19 vaccinations are preferred
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation as a door-knocking canvasser (Required)
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to canvass on the doors and 16 years of age or older to phonebank

The canvasser will need a deep understanding of community dynamics in targeted Black neighborhoods.
The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to foster coordination and cooperation among diverse groups and will be committed to getting results in a fast-paced environment.
Contract Length:
This is a part-time, as-needed position. A mandatory virtual orientation and onboarding are required to begin work.
Compensation: Canvassers' pay is $25 per hour with a required 10-hour weekly minimum. This opportunity will be available throughout the campaign. Phone bankers will be paid $20 per hour.
Canvassing and phone banking days and hours are Monday - Saturday, between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM CST, as that is when people are home.
