We are looking for an experienced Part-time (20 hours per week) Paralegal to support a busy litigation practice in Houston, Texas. This is a Contract position suited for a detail-focused individual who can manage complex case activity, maintain critical deadlines, and contribute throughout all stages of litigation. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational judgment, clear communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with attorneys, clients, witnesses, and outside experts.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate litigation support activities for depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trial proceedings, including preparing materials and assisting with witness readiness.
• Prepare legal documents such as correspondence, pleadings, and court filings while ensuring submissions meet applicable procedural requirements.
• Track discovery obligations, court-imposed deadlines, and scheduling order milestones across state and federal matters to help keep cases on schedule.
• Review, organize, and produce documents while maintaining consistent communication with attorneys, clients, and other key parties.
• Open and maintain case files, assemble materials for active matters, and keep records organized in both electronic and physical formats in line with retention practices.
• Partner with expert witnesses and fact witnesses by coordinating logistics, collecting materials, and supporting preparation efforts.
• Conduct legal research and assist with trial strategy support, exhibit preparation, and in-court trial attendance as needed.
• Provide guidance and day-to-day support to legal assistants, entry-level paralegals, and law clerks to promote efficient workflow and quality standards.
• 5-7 years of paralegal experience supporting defense litigation matters, preferably within insurance, energy, or maritime practice areas.
• Accredited college degree required.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume workload independently while balancing multiple deadlines and priorities.
• Strong background in discovery, civil litigation, trial preparation, and case management processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with attorneys, clients, and external stakeholders.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Prior experience in a law firm or corporate legal department preferred.
• Familiarity with iManage or a comparable document management platform is an advantage.
