Contract Overview
This position supports the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) at the Center for Sustainment of Trauma and Readiness Skills (C-STARS) located in Omaha, Nebraska. C-STARS partners with the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) to deliver advanced readiness training in biocontainment care, critical care, emergency medicine, and infectious disease air transport for Department of Defense medical personnel.
The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) is responsible for maintaining, repairing, testing, calibrating, and supporting medical simulation equipment used in military healthcare training while ensuring compliance with Air Force, DoD, and healthcare regulatory standards.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) to support the operation, maintenance, and readiness of biomedical and medical simulation equipment used in military medical education and training.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in biomedical equipment maintenance, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and medical simulation systems. This individual will also support simulation training operations, equipment setup, instructor support, and program readiness activities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years of Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) experience.
  • Experience maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, and calibrating biomedical equipment.
  • Knowledge of electronic systems, medical equipment, hardware, and software troubleshooting.
  • Experience interpreting technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and electronic diagrams.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory standards, including:
    • Department of Defense (DoD)
    • The Joint Commission
    • OSHA
    • FDA
    • NFPA
    • CAP
    • AAAHC
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to pass a color vision test.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Military medical or deployment experience.
  • Experience supporting military healthcare training programs.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Experience supporting simulation centers, audiovisual systems, moulage, hyper-realistic simulators, or task trainers.
  • Familiarity with Air Force Technical Order Systems.
  • Experience operating or supporting medical simulation platforms and training environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, calibration, inspection, and repair of biomedical and simulation equipment.
  • Troubleshoot complex electronic and electromechanical medical systems.
  • Maintain equipment maintenance records and technical documentation.
  • Evaluate equipment for repair, replacement, or lifecycle upgrades.
  • Inspect and test medical equipment to ensure operational readiness and regulatory compliance.
  • Support operation and maintenance of simulation equipment, including patient simulators and specialized training platforms.
  • Prepare simulation environments before training and restore equipment following training events.
  • Assist with daily operation of the simulation training program.
  • Develop and maintain equipment operation, safety, and maintenance documentation.
  • Train instructors and medical personnel on the safe operation and preventive maintenance of biomedical equipment.
  • Support classroom setup, student activities, course logistics, and simulation center operations.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures and utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Travel occasionally to provide technical support, training, and subject matter expertise for mission-related activities.
