What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Modeling Simulation Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Modeling Simulation Analyst, you need a strong background in mathematics, statistics, and computer science, often supported by a relevant degree such as in engineering or applied mathematics. Proficiency in simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, Arena), programming languages (such as Python or C++), and familiarity with data analysis tools are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top candidates apart in this role. These abilities are vital for developing accurate models, interpreting complex data, and clearly presenting findings to support strategic decision-making.

How does a Modeling Simulation Analyst typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

Modeling Simulation Analysts frequently work alongside engineers, data scientists, and project managers to develop and refine simulation models. Collaboration often involves gathering system requirements, validating model assumptions with subject matter experts, and presenting simulation results to stakeholders. Clear communication is essential, as analysts must translate complex simulation data into actionable insights for decision-makers. Regular team meetings and iterative feedback are common to ensure the models accurately reflect real-world scenarios and project goals.

What are Modeling Simulation Analysts?

Modeling Simulation Analysts are professionals who use mathematical models, simulations, and analytical techniques to study complex systems and predict their behavior. They help organizations make informed decisions by evaluating scenarios, testing hypotheses, and optimizing processes through virtual models. These analysts work in various industries, including defense, healthcare, manufacturing, and transportation, to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and support planning and strategy. Their work often involves collaboration with engineers, scientists, and decision-makers to interpret simulation results and implement solutions.

What is the difference between Modeling Simulation Analyst vs Data Analyst?

This on-site position supports training, exercises, inspections, assessments, and demonstrations through the development, integration, and operation of advanced M&S environments and associated tools. Successful candidates will be detail-oriented and possess strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Candidates with experience supporting missile warning, missile defense, Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3), space operations, or military exercise environments are highly desired.

What you will be doing:

Supporting national-level USSTRATCOM training, exercises, inspections, assessments, demonstrations, and mission readiness activities through the operation and execution of M&S environments.

Operating and maintaining Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) simulation capabilities supporting missile warning, missile defense, NC3, and space operations mission areas.

Developing and integrating M&S tools to support simulation analysis, performance assessments, and capability evaluations.

Diagnosing and resolving M&S system issues in coordination with system engineers and architects.

Supporting the Joint Integrated Missile Defense Training System (JIMDTS) simulation environment, including administration of simulation toolkits and delivery of train-the-trainer instruction.

Developing, configuring, testing, and executing simulation scenarios using government-provided simulation software and applications. Supporting simulation environments including JIMDTS, Global Command and Control System (GCCS) Common Operational Picture (COP), Nuclear Planning and Execution System (NPES), Force Status Readiness (FSR), Integrated Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment (ITW/AA), and Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) systems.

Building and maintaining NPES training and exercise scenarios using Centurion and generating associated message traffic.

Integrating simulation components and validating interfaces with operational systems and Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) environments.

Coordinating with government personnel, mission partners, and technical teams to identify simulation requirements, support event planning and execution, and conduct database, system, and event testing to verify simulation functionality, operational readiness, and interface performance.

Serving as a Simulation Coordinator during exercises, assessments, inspections, demonstrations, and other mission events.

Supporting M&S activities for experimentation, concept development, demonstrations, wargames, and capability assessments.

Maintaining simulation databases, archived event data, technical documentation, and related records while supporting evaluation and implementation of emerging M&S technologies and enhanced simulation capabilities.
