Position Hours: 2nd Shift: 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM Monday - Friday; Flexible start and end times varying on operational needs.

Position Wage: $23.40 - $40.95 per hour (17% shift differential included)

Salaries are based on a number of factors, including the skills and experience of the candidates. It is common to be hired at the lower to middle end of a salary range and while it is possible to be hired at the higher end, it often requires unique circumstances, such as proven expertise.

Job Description:

The Machinist will be reporting to the Lead Machinist and is responsible for heavy sectioning and sample coupon preparation.

Job Duties amp; Responsibilities:

  • Running the horizontal bandsaws, Bridgeport mill, CNC mill, CNC lathe, and drill press.
  • Document lab results in Bluestreak, Midwest Metallurgical Laboratories (MML) in-house operating system
  • Section and prepare samples for mechanical testing and metallography
  • Perform basic maintenance on all shop equipment
  • Calibrate equipment as required
  • Monitor amp; maintain machine shop supplies
  • Verify tags are accurate and complete
  • Maintain sample archive
  • Prepare items for transfer between various work centers
  • Work with lab personnel to ensure due dates are met and information flows to the correct individuals
  • Ensure shop organization amp; cleanliness

Minimum Requirements:

  • May be required to work overtime or any shift, including weekends.

Physical amp; Mental Demands: The following physical and mental demands consist of but are not limited to the following:

  • Must be able to work in a standing position for extended periods in a non-climate controlled industrial environment
  • Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach to perform functions.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying at least 25-pound objects throughout shift
  • Must be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, humidity, etc.
  • Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform fundamental mathematical skills and concepts (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages, and the basics of algebra and geometry).
  • Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
  • Ability to hear in person and via phone.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional education is preferred.


Experience: Previous machine shop and/or heat treat experience considered a plus. CNC experience a plus.
