The Company:
HF Custom (formerly Sam Moore Furniture), a division of Hooker Furnishings Corporation (NASDAQ: HOFT), is currently recruiting for an Upholstery Trainee to work in our plant in Bedford, VA. Hooker Furnishings Corporation, in its 101st year of business, is a designer, marketer, and importer of case goods (wooden and metal furniture), leather furniture, and fabric-upholstered furniture for the residential, hospitality, and contract markets.

The Position:
HF Custom/Sam Moore Furniture is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Upholsterer with 10+ years of hands-on experience in high-quality furniture upholstery. This role is responsible for crafting upholstered furniture to meet company standards for quality, durability, and craftsmanship. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, has strong attention to detail, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Upholster a wide range of custom fabric furniture pieces, including chairs, sofas, and specialty items
  • Interpret work orders, patterns, and fabric specifications accurately
  • Measure, cut, and apply fabric, leather, padding, and trim materials
  • Ensure proper alignment, pattern matching, and finish quality
  • Inspect frames and materials prior to upholstery to identify defects or issues
  • Use hand tools and pneumatic equipment safely and efficiently
  • Maintain consistent production output while meeting quality standards
  • Repair or rework pieces as needed to meet specifications
  • Keep work area clean and organized in accordance with safety guidelines
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of upholstery experience in furniture manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of upholstery techniques, tools, and materials
  • Ability to read and interpret production tickets and specifications
  • High attention to detail and craftsmanship
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to stand, bend, and lift throughout the shift (up to 50 lbs as needed)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in high-end or custom fabric furniture upholstery
  • Experience working with a variety of fabrics and leathers
  • Familiarity with quality control standards in furniture manufacturing

Compensation amp; Benefits
  • Pay Rate: $20.00 – $30.00 per hour (based on experience and skill level)
