Job description

Who Are We?

The Motley Fool is a purpose-driven financial services company on a mission to make the world smarter, happier, and richer. For 30 years, we've been helping people make better investment decisions through transparency, education, and a healthy dose of Foolish fun. We're a fast-moving, collaborative team that values high-quality work, curiosity, and initiative. We care deeply about what we do, and we're driven by the impact our work has on real people's financial futures.

What Does This Team Do?

Our Business Intelligence team acts like internal consultants. We help teams across the company do their jobs better by identifying opportunities and informing data-driven decisions. We don't just "pull data"-we uncover the stories buried in the numbers to guide our marketing, product, and member experience strategies.

What Will You Do in This Role?

The Business Intelligence/Data Analyst plays a critical role in driving strategic decision-making. You will collaborate closely with senior BI team members and stakeholders across various departments to analyze business performance and develop growth strategies.

Okay, but what will you actually do in this role?
  • Analyze datasets containing millions of records to identify trends, patterns, and exploratory insights.
  • Apply statistical methods and machine learning algorithms to solve complex business problems and forecast outcomes.
  • Partner with business teams to understand their strategy and goals, then translate them into actionable data initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards in Tableau that provide clear, jargon-free insights.
  • Work with data engineering and tech colleagues to automate and operationalize your models.
  • Provide data-informed recommendations with a quantifiable value to improve product features, engagement, and member experience.
  • Monitor key metrics and performance indicators to develop strategies for business impact.
You Might Be a Good Fit If You:
  • Are curious and love to learn, often taking things apart to understand how they work.
  • Thrive when learning something new every day and staying curious enough to uncover the stories buried in data.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with a consultative mindset and approach to working with stakeholders.
  • Have a proven ability to craft concise, actionable analyses and reports that tell a story about a business area or marketing campaign.
  • Consider yourself a scientist who can delve deep into large data sets to build clear, compelling analyses that unlock high-impact breakthroughs.
Required Experience and Skills:
  • 5+ years of experience in a business intelligence, data analysis, data-informed decision-making, or strategy role.
  • Proven ability to extract, manipulate, and transform large datasets via Python and/or SQL.
  • Proficiency in data visualization techniques and tools including Tableau.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in data science, finance, statistics, economics, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights for a non-technical audience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive, consultative approach.
  • Statistical experiment design and testing including inferential statistics.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience or familiarity with financial services, digital publishing, or subscription products (preferred).
  • Proficiency with ML/AI techniques including predictive models to uncover insights and deploy optimizations (plus).
  • Experience working with web analytics platforms like Google Analytics (plus).
  • Experience with Jira/project management tools and Git-based workflows (preferred).
