Position Title: IT Support Specialist
Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract IT Support Specialist opportunity.
Job Responsibilities:
  • The Tier-1 IT Support Specialist will support onboarding activities, including badge creation for new employees and contractors, complete workspace setup with monitors, docking stations, and peripherals, and mobile device configuration for enterprise applications such as Okta Verify, Zoom, Slack, and Outlook.
  • Hardware support duties include maintaining the asset inventory by testing devices and tracking equipment that meets organizational standards. The role involves troubleshooting issues with docking stations, displays, webcams, and other peripherals, replacing hardware when necessary, and documenting inventory locations with appropriate asset labels.
  • Software support responsibilities encompass installing and uninstalling applications per user requests, performing initial troubleshooting for common software issues, and providing remote assistance for first-level technical problems.
  • The position includes daily ticket queue management with direct communication to end-users, resolution of tier-1 support requests, adherence to first-response service level agreements, and proper escalation of issues to employees according to established procedures.
  • Documentation responsibilities include contributing to knowledge base articles for common procedures and new processes as the technology environment evolves.

Job Qualifications:
  • 1-3 years of experience in IT help desk or technical support roles with demonstrated troubleshooting ability across Windows and macOS environments. The position requires familiarity with mobile device management, enterprise applications, and strong written and verbal communication skills for explaining technical concepts to nontechnical users. The ability to prioritize multiple requests and work independently is necessary.
  • Physical requirements include the ability lift and move equipment (monitors, deliveries, etc), the ability to walk sites to support end-users at their desks, travel between sites by either walking or driving.
  • Adherence to safety policies in a lab environment including wearing appropriate clothes (ie shorts are considered unsafe in the lab). The potential need to equip PPE such as ear plugs, safety classes or hard hats.
  • Experience supporting users in research or scientific environments, knowledge of ticketing systems (particularly Jira), familiarity with IT asset management practices, and comfort with remote support tools are preferred. The research and development setting requires adaptability to changing priorities and good judgment when standard procedures do not address specific situations.
