SUMMARY
The Sr. Industrial Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing common contract logistics processes and driving continuous performance improvement. This engineer may also provide engineering support for new and/or expanding business implementations. The Sr. Industrial Engineer will support multifaceted operations and have a detailed understanding of client needs. The Sr. Industrial Engineer may contribute to the overall facility layout and design as well as determine appropriate equipment to support the concept of operational use. The Engineer will lead & manage any necessary vendors, as they execute the physical implementation of the solution.
This role is also responsible for maintaining financial and engineering metrics that will meet or exceed performance goals. The Sr. Industrial Engineer may at times provide guidance and training to interns/Co-ops.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Research/Analysis:
  • Keep informed of best-in-class tools and techniques needed for solution design
  • Track all projects and provide communication and guidance to engineering leadership
  • Determine and enlist resources required to support targeted changes in support of CI project including WMS Engineering, Operations, Human Resources, Quality, Etc.
  • Analyze workflow including inbound, put away, replenishment, picking, packing, shipping and VAS processes to ensure accuracy and ability to execute
  • Ensures all distribution system functionality is configured to optimize performance (e.g., WMS, LMS)
  • Performs special research or technical studies critical to logistic support functions
  • Performs cost/benefit tradeoff analysis and develop ROI business cases for recommended projects involving process, system, or technology change
  • Develops logistics engineering strategies with the engineering leadership team
  • May participation in "DSV Quality Planning" (DQP) sessions with new clients validating requirements and processes
  • May support local operations with pricing analysis and support

Documentation/Reporting:
  • Document and communicate common processes for all distribution functions within scope of responsibility
  • Review data and summarize expectations to address gaps in operation
  • Identify areas for improvement based on analysis of data and observations

Communication:
  • Communicate opportunities for improvement
  • Help determine key metrics and provide recommendations to guide management
  • Assist with developing/presenting training materials and classes for distribution processes

Relationships:
  • Bring cross-functional teams together to collaborate on projects
  • Support the labor management program, including methods and procedures, engineered labor standards,
  • Ensure alignment among all operations' policies, procedures and ongoing improvement projects

LEAN Operations:
  • Educate team in LEAN expanding knowledge base to support and develop a sustainable CI culture
  • Facilitate use of LEAN methodology in collaboration with our global team and recommend solutions
  • Deploy statistical tools such as Pareto Charts, Histograms and Cause & Effect Diagrams
  • Leverage Value Stream Map or Flow Diagram of process to identify critical to quality points
  • Use of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) of the process being evaluated to quantify impact
  • Maintain SME in proven industry methods and tools such as Six Sigma DMAIC, value-stream mapping, and 5S
  • Work with leadership to drive continual improvement programs, Kaizen events, and workshops
  • Set the standard for innovation within strategic and operational problem solving
  • Apply traditional concepts to a variety of material handling environments
  • Ensure that all projects include a sustainability component and drive adherence within the organization
  • Illustrate continual improvement successes in a case study before & after format that quantifies value

Project Management:
  • Assist with developing and rolling out strategies and projects
  • Determine feasibility of projects factoring costs, available space, schedule limitations, company goals, technical requirements and economic factors
  • Develop and implement project activities plans and timelines, coordinate subcontractors, facility management and field service personnel, and resolve problems in area of logistics to ensure meeting of contractual commitments

OTHER DUTIES
  • Drive standard approach for US based operations and could be asked to coordinate with Canadian counterparts
  • Performs other duties as required
  • May need to backup Engineering Leadership on occasion
  • Maintain fiscal responsibility towards department budget
  • Compliance to the Internal Labor Regulations and to the Human Resources Procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering required or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum 3-4 years' experience in a supply chain (warehouse/4walls) environment.
  • Prior leadership positions directing Logistics Engineers in 3PL/supply chain environment

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
โ€ข Advanced knowledge of statistics
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications with advanced knowledge of Excel, Access and Power BI
  • Insight into a Warehouse Management Systems allowing for understanding of system capabilities
  • AutoCAD
  • Lean methodologies

  • Knowledge of various storage methodologies as well as material handling equipment
  • Storage and process design

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / DESIRED SKILLS
  • 5 years' experience in a supply chain (warehouse/4walls) environment.
