The Walt Disney Company's Disney Entertainment (DE) group includes the company's full portfolio of entertainment media and content business globally, including streaming (Disney+ and Hulu).

Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Subscriber Growth & Monetization is a highly visible team of professionals with backgrounds in consulting, investment banking, private equity, media & entertainment, and technology who serve as in-house advisers to DTC's executive leadership and own the subscriber, engagement, and revenue growth planning and reporting for Disney+ and Hulu. The team's activities and accomplishments have contributed to the rapid growth and success of Disney's DTC business.

Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Analyst that will play a key role in growing our direct-to-consumer business, with a focus on Subscriber Planning for the Disney+ US / Canada and Hulu. This Senior Analyst will support the subscriber forecasting process with thorough analysis of business trends and forecast model development and improvement, with a particular focus on subscriber retention. They will provide variance analysis through regular reporting to Subscriber Planning leadership and support the evaluation of strategic initiatives. Workstreams include but are not limited to modeling the impacts of new product offerings, developing and tracking KPIs to drive execution, monitoring performance of the service, and more. They will also collaborate closely with stakeholders from Revenue Planning, Engagement Planning, Product, ESPN, Business Operations, Executive Reporting, and more.

The right person for this role has phenomenal analytical skills, experience working with large datasets and building complex financial models, high standards for themselves, and initiative in anticipating and exceeding the business demands of the key stakeholders. This role will leverage data to generate and share business insights, provide strategic recommendations, and influence key operational decisions.

The pace of change at Disney's DTC businesses necessitates an ability to manage multiple projects, collaborate with a range stakeholders, and roll up sleeves to support this important segment of the Disney business.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and enhance the Disney+ and Hulu subscriber forecast process & key underlying assumptions with a focus on subscriber retention.
  • Lead and support strategic ad hoc analysis to highlight KPI trends, opportunities / risks to plan, size new product offerings, etc.
  • Develop impactful, compelling presentation materials (decks, notes, write-ups, backup materials, etc.) that effectively communicate outlooks, drivers, business performance, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership
  • Act as a point of contact for operational support teams (Business Operations, Data & Analytics, Executive Reporting, Marketing, ESPN, to name a few) and ensure alignment on key assumptions and understanding of KPIs
  • Move seamlessly between different research projects and analysis raised by team leaders to inform decision-making

Education and Skills:

  • 2+ years of strategy or finance experience with a top tier tech or media & entertainment firm, management consultancy, or investment bank / private equity firm
  • Bachelor's degree from a world-class school with a major in Finance, Economics, or similar field with an analytical focus
  • Strong analytical capabilities and financial modeling skills (especially in Excel), including the ability to build models from scratch
  • Experience working with large amounts of data and with analytical tools other than Excel (e.g., R, Python, SQL) is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including PowerPoint) and ability to simplify complex matters for an executive audience
  • Ability to work well in teams, both within the group and with other business units
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects at the same time
  • Natural curiosity, and passion for the media industry, the streaming business, and content
  • Familiarity with working in or with global, large organizations is a plus
The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, CA is $112,700 to $154,800 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
