Job description

We are seeking a dependable, compassionate individual to join our dining services team at the Heritage Pointe of Fort Wayne. We currently have a full-time Line Cook opening. Our Cook prepares and serves meals in accordance with planned menus, resident dietary needs, and regulatory guidelines. This role ensures food is safe, properly portioned, and served attractively and on time. The Cook plays an important part in promoting resident health, comfort, and satisfaction
Essential Job Functions
  • Prepare and cook meals that align with physician-ordered diets, resident preferences, and facility menus.
  • Follow recipes and portion control guidelines to maintain consistency and nutritional standards.
  • Ensure all food is handled, stored, and prepared in compliance with Department of Health and food safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, food storage areas, and equipment.
  • Monitor food inventory and assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
  • Collaborate with dietary aides and other kitchen staff to ensure timely meal service.
  • Maintain accurate food temperature logs and sanitation records as required.
  • Respond to resident dietary needs and requests in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Participate in training, staff meetings, and quality assurance activities as directed by the Dietary Manager.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous cooking experience in healthcare, senior living, or institutional food service setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of modified diets, portion control, and food safety procedures.
  • ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain within a specified period.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and interact positively with residents and staff.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up at least 30 lbs.
  • Ability to work in warm or refrigerated environments and handle cleaning chemicals safely.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks and maintain focus in a busy setting.

Schedule and Compensation:
  • Current opening is 5:30am - 2pm shift with a set two week schedule
  • Every other weekend / holiday
  • Competitive hourly wage based on experience
