Certified Structural Welder

Location: Downey, CA

Position Type: Full-Time / Contract

Shift: First Shift. Must be able to work at least 50 hours per week.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, AWS Certified Structural Welder to join our team for an industrial conveyor installation and modification project in Downey, CA. This role is responsible for high-quality structural welding of conveyor frames, platforms, and associated industrial steel structures. Candidates must hold active AWS certifications for SMAW (Stick) welding utilizing both 7018 and 6011 electrodes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural SMAW (Stick) welding on conveyor systems, platforms, and structural steel supports according to project specifications.
  • Utilize 7018 (low-hydrogen) and 6011 (fast-freeze) rods to achieve clean, high-penetration structural welds that pass visual and non-destructive testing.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and layout schematics to accurately position and secure structural components.
  • Perform layout, alignment, and fit-up of structural steel components prior to welding.
  • Measure, mark, and cut material accurately using standard fabricator tools (tape measures, squares, torches, and grinders).
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment, strictly adhering to site-specific safety guidelines and PPE requirements.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Certifications (Strictly Required): Must possess current, verifiable AWS Welding Certificates for SMAW (Stick) 7018 and 6011.
  • Electrode Expertise: Direct experience welding with 7018 and 6011 rods in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.
  • Measurement Skills: Strong mathematical and measurement skills. Must be highly proficient at reading a tape measure down to $1/16"$ increments and performing basic fractional calculations on the deck plate.
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and execute structural steel fabrication blueprints and weld symbols.
  • Tools: Proficient with standard metalworking tools, including angle grinders, cutting torches, and clamping devices.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work comfortably in an active industrial/construction environment.
  • Reliability: Must have reliable transportation to the job site in Downey, CA.

Vetting & Submission Note: Proof of current AWS certifications must be provided at the time of application. In alignment with project screening standards, candidates will also be required to validate basic fraction math and tape measure proficiency (down to 1/16) prior to dispatch.
