Job description

Job Title: Controller (Consulting Project - Fully Remote)
Job Description
This consulting controller role allows an experienced accounting professional to apply deep expertise in financial reporting, audit, tax, and accounting operations in a fully remote, project-based environment. You will review and refine complex accounting content, develop realistic business cases, and help shape next-generation technology solutions without the demands of traditional client work, close cycles, or travel. The engagement offers flexible scheduling within a 30-40 hour workweek over a 12-week period, with the potential to extend.
Responsibilities
  • Review accounting-related scenarios, answers, and analyses to ensure technical accuracy and completeness.
  • Analyze financial reporting, audit, tax, and broader accounting-related content for quality, clarity, and correctness.
  • Provide expert feedback and recommendations to improve the accuracy, structure, and usefulness of accounting and finance content.
  • Develop realistic accounting and finance business cases based on professional experience in areas such as controllership, financial reporting, audit, tax, and finance operations.
  • Create clear, well-structured explanations of accounting concepts, standards, and practices for a variety of use cases.
  • Identify inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and gaps in accounting and finance materials, and propose practical improvements.
  • Apply knowledge of technical accounting topics such as SOX compliance, revenue recognition, lease accounting, treasury, internal controls, and month-end close processes to evaluate and refine content.
  • Collaborate asynchronously within a remote project team while maintaining high quality standards and meeting project timelines.
  • Work independently, managing your own workload and schedule to deliver consistent, high-quality outputs across the full engagement.
  • Leverage user-level familiarity with AI and large language model tools to review, evaluate, and enhance AI-generated accounting content.

Essential Skills
  • Approximately 7+ years of substantive accounting experience, with a strong background in practical, hands-on work.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: public accounting, corporate accounting, audit, tax, advisory, FP&A, financial reporting, or finance operations.
  • Technical accounting expertise in areas such as financial reporting, controllership, audit, internal controls, SOX compliance, revenue recognition, lease accounting, treasury, and month-end close.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage tasks in a fully remote environment.
  • General familiarity with AI and large language model tools at a user level.
  • Availability to work 30-40 hours per week over the full 12-week engagement.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Master's degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline is preferred but not required.
  • CPA certification is preferred but not mandatory; practical expertise and experience are highly valued.
  • background that spans multiple domains such as audit, tax, advisory, FP&A, financial reporting, and finance operations.
  • Experience developing or reviewing technical accounting documentation, policies, or training materials.
  • Comfort working in a consulting or project-based environment with evolving priorities.
  • Interest in contributing to the development of next-generation technology solutions in accounting and finance.

Work Environment
This role operates in a fully remote work environment, allowing you to contribute from any suitable location with reliable internet access. The position offers a flexible schedule within a 30-40 hour workweek, with a requirement to maintain that commitment across the full 12-week engagement and the possibility of extension. Work is project-based rather than client-facing, meaning there are no traditional close cycles, no travel requirements, and no direct client service obligations. You will primarily use digital collaboration tools and AI/LLM platforms to review, analyze, and enhance accounting-related content in a focused, professional, and technology-driven setting.
