Job description

Assistant Controller

A fast-growing, PE-backed financial services platform is hiring an Assistant Controller to help scale its accounting infrastructure. The company is backed by one of the top private equity firms in the country and is expanding rapidly through acquisition. This is a newly created role with real ownership from day one.

The team is small, the environment is high-growth and unstructured, and the people who thrive here are the ones who roll up their sleeves, build what doesn't exist yet, and get comfortable working across a wide range of stakeholders.

The Role

You'll oversee day-to-day accounting operations across a portfolio of operating companies, with a mix of technical accounting, systems work, and cross-functional collaboration. Specifically:

  • Own the monthly close, GL processes, reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial statements across multiple entities
  • Apply US GAAP expertise in complex areas including revenue recognition, purchase accounting, and lease accounting
  • Serve as a key finance lead during post-acquisition integrations, onboarding entities onto NetSuite and other platforms
  • Partner with external auditors and internal stakeholders, including company leadership and founders
  • Help build and refine processes and controls as the company scales

What You Bring

  • 7+ years of accounting experience, with meaningful time at the Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller level in-house
  • CPA required
  • Real ERP experience, NetSuite strongly preferred. This is not a QuickBooks environment.
  • Background in a startup, PE-backed company, or high-growth environment where you've had to build, not just maintain
  • Strong communicator with the executive presence to work alongside challenging, high-performing stakeholders who aren't always process-oriented
  • Public accounting background preferred but not required

Compensation and Details

  • Base salary $165,000 to $185,000, with total cash up to $225,000
  • Manhattan, 5 days per week
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, HSA with employer contributions, 401(k) with 4% match, unlimited PTO, and commuter benefits

Hoxton Circle is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
