Position Title: Principal Civil/Structural Engineer

Location: Houston, TX

Position Description

The Principal Civil/Structural Engineer handles medium, large and complex projects. He/she has wide latitude of technical authority with full work responsibilities, as well as limited administrative responsibilities, over a group of Civil/Structural Engineers and Designers. He/she may assign and review work of lower-level personnel. He/she may also function as the Lead Civil/Structural Engineer, responsible for all discipline technical and scheduling matters pertaining to the assigned project. Work is periodically reviewed by the Chief Civil/Structural Engineer for accomplishment of objectives.


Essential Functions

  • Prepares or reviews discipline project specifications.
  • Prepares or reviews requisitions for inquiry in support of purchasing Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings, Structural Steel for supports, Pre-fabricated pipe supports, and subcontracts.
  • Approves technical bid evaluations for Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings, Structural Steel for supports, Pre-fabricated pipe supports, and subcontracts in cooperation with Procurement Department.
  • Prepares and reviews/approves proposals for Geotechnical Investigation & Topographic Surveys.
  • Develops or reviews site plans, grading & paving plans, building/ equipment foundation plans & details as required by the discipline.
  • Prepares and/or reviews civil and structural calculations for the design of various civil/ structural elements pertaining to the project.
  • Reviews plot plans and facilities for Civil/Structural requirements.
  • Coordinates with and provides liaison with client personnel relative to Civil/Structural activities.
  • Reviews and approves vendor documents.
  • Prepares or reviews engineering and design status reports, logs, work plans and project variances.
  • Reviews the discipline scope of work to be executed to ensure it matches project specification and/or the proposal documents as appropriate.
  • Accepts both short and extended term assignments to the site, client's office, etc. as may be requested by the Chief Civil/Structural Engineer.

DEPARTMENT FUNCTIONSCivil/Structural Engineering is a highly specialized group whose function is to provide design-engineering service covering:SIte Data Sheet - Prepare site specific data sheet listing the design loads viz. Dead, Live, Wind & Seismic and the environmental conditions.Site Grading & Drainage - Develop the optimum grading & surface drainage system based upon existing contours, site constraints, local regulatory requirements & cost.Calculations - Perform calculations and analysis for the following:Runoff calculations for sizing culverts and Erosion & Sedimentation Control devices.Foundation calculations for steel building columns, compressors, pumps, other equipment, pipe anchors & supports, cable tray supports, storage tanks etc.Structural steel calculations for pipe anchors & supports, access platforms, cable tray supports etc.

Requirements

Qualifications


  • Typically 8+ years experience focusing on pipeline facilities.
  • In depth knowledgeable of industry standards and codes published by ACI, IBC, AISC, ANSI, etc. and have the ability to apply the standards to civil & structural analysis & designs
  • Knowledge of civil/ structural engineering analysis & design computer programs like RISA 3D, Mat 3D, Foundation 3D, LPile etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required
