Position Summary

The general manager is responsible for overseeing sales operations for designated memorial parks, driving pre-need and at-need sales, managing the sales team, and ensuring customer satisfaction. This role requires a highly motivated sales professional with leadership capabilities to develop and execute sales strategies, foster client relationships, and manage cemetery expenses, including labor and overtime costs. The Sales Manager is expected to work both on-site and remotely and must be able to adapt to a dynamic, client-focused environment.

The cemetery sales manager reports directly to their designated executive regional manager, and is required to obtain his/her approval for all necessary authorizations, including but not limited to overtime, scheduling, and operational decisions.

Key Responsibilities1. Sales & Revenue Generation
  • Drive pre-need and at-need sales of cemetery properties, merchandise, and services.

  • Meet and exceed monthly and annual sales goals and bonus targets.

  • Educate families on the value of pre-planning cemetery arrangements to ensure informed decision-making.

  • Manage the complete sales cycle, from prospecting to closing, while maintaining accurate sales records.

  • Ensure pricing integrity and adherence to all company policies and regulatory guidelines.

2. Customer Relations & Community Engagement
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with families, funeral homes, and community organizations.

  • Actively participate in community outreach programs to promote cemetery pre-planning services.

  • Address and resolve customer concerns or complaints in a professional and compassionate manner.

3. Operational & Financial Management
  • Ensure all sales activities align with budgetary goals and cost control measures.

  • Monitor and manage overtime costs, ensuring approval from your supervisor for any overtime hours.

  • Maintain accurate sales records, contracts, and customer agreements in compliance with company policies; retain client information in confidence and preserve privacy of sensitive client financial account information.

  • Regularly assess sales trends and develop strategies to enhance revenue and operational efficiency.

  • Oversee and manage operational tasks for the location.

4. Compliance & Timekeeping
  • Adhere to all company policies, state laws, and federal regulations, including FLSA requirements.

  • Accurately clock in and out for all work hours, ensuring full compliance with timekeeping policies.

  • Work only during approved hours, securing pre-approval for any personal or direct report overtime requests.

  • Ensure that all transactions and customer interactions are documented properly and meet regulatory federal and state requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Proven sales experience in a quota-driven environment.

  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to work with grieving families in a compassionate, empathetic, and professional manner.

  • Proficiency in CRM systems, contracts, and sales reporting.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Experience with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office programs.

  • Ability to navigate email and to create and manage documents.

Preferred but Not Required:

  • Experience in cemetery, funeral, or pre-need sales.

  • Prior experience managing a sales team.

Work Schedule & Expectations
  • This is a full-time position (40 hours per week).

  • Effectively manage your schedule and the schedules of your direct reports to avoid unnecessary overtime.

  • All work-related activities must be logged by clocking in/out for all work hours.

  • Unauthorized overtime is not permitted and could result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
