What is a seasonal cemetery worker?

A Seasonal Cemetery Worker is an employee who is hired temporarily, usually during the spring, summer, and fall, to assist with the maintenance and upkeep of cemetery grounds. Their duties typically include mowing grass, trimming bushes, planting flowers, preparing gravesites, and performing general landscaping tasks. Seasonal positions often last several months and require outdoor, physical work. These workers help ensure that cemeteries remain respectful, clean, and welcoming for visitors during the busy burial and maintenance seasons.

What does a seasonal cemetery worker do?

In a Seasonal Cemetery role, daily responsibilities often include maintaining the grounds by mowing lawns, trimming trees and shrubs, and ensuring that walkways and grave sites are clean and presentable. You may also assist with setting up for graveside services, helping with minor landscaping projects, and performing light equipment maintenance. Collaboration with other grounds crew members and cemetery staff is common to coordinate tasks and provide respectful service to families visiting the cemetery. The work is typically outdoors and can be physically demanding, but it offers a sense of accomplishment in maintaining a peaceful environment.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a seasonal cemetery worker?

To thrive as a Seasonal Cemetery Worker, you generally need physical stamina, basic landscaping or groundskeeping skills, and attention to detail, with a high school diploma often preferred. Familiarity with lawn maintenance equipment, power tools, and occasionally small machinery is typically required.
