Job description

We are seeking a skilled AV Design Engineer to lead the conceptualization, design, and documentation of integrated audiovisual systems. This role is responsible for translating client requirements into functional, cost-effective technical solutions, including system flow diagrams, equipment layouts, and acoustic considerations. The ideal candidate will collaborate cross-functionally with sales, project management, and installation teams to ensure projects are executed with accuracy and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Design & Architecture:
    Develop end-to-end AV system designs, including signal flow, control systems, and network infrastructure.

  • Technical Documentation:
    Produce detailed engineering documentation using tools such as AutoCAD or Revit, including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, and wiring diagrams.

  • Client Engagement:
    Conduct needs assessments and present technical solutions in a clear, easy-to-understand manner.

  • Equipment Selection:
    Research and specify AV hardware (e.g., displays, microphones, DSPs, switchers) aligned with performance requirements and project budgets.

  • Commissioning Support:
    Provide technical guidance during installation and assist with troubleshooting to ensure systems meet design specifications.

  • Standards & Compliance:
    Ensure all designs align with industry standards and applicable building codes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design tools

    • Strong understanding of digital signal processing (DSP) platforms

    • Knowledge of AV-over-IP technologies and networking fundamentals (e.g., VLANs, QoS)

    • Familiarity with AV control systems and user interface design

  • Core Competencies:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Ability to visualize and design complex system signal paths

    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify technical concepts

    • High attention to detail and accuracy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CTS, CTS-D, or equivalent)

  • Experience with leading AV brands and technologies across audio, video, and control systems

  • Familiarity with acoustic modeling or simulation tools

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Audio Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 3-5+ years of experience in AV system design, integration, or consulting
