Job description


We are seeking an experienced Interim Payroll Consultant to lead the implementation, configuration, testing, and ongoing optimization of the Paycom HRIS/payroll platform. This role serves as the primary payroll subject matter expert and key liaison between internal stakeholders and the Paycom implementation team.
Responsibilities
  • Manage end-to-end multi-state payroll processing for hourly, salaried, union, and non-union employees, ensuring timely and accurate payroll execution while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Oversee prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting requirements, ensuring compliance with Davis-Bacon, state prevailing wage laws, and customer-specific labor reporting obligations across construction projects.
  • Administer employee benefits, deductions, and leave programs, partnering with HR and external vendors to ensure accurate enrollment, payroll integration, reconciliations, and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Develop and maintain payroll controls, processes, and reporting capabilities, leveraging Paycom functionality to improve efficiency, data accuracy, audit readiness, and workforce analytics.
  • Collaborate with project accounting, field operations, HR, and finance teams to support labor costing, job costing allocations, union reporting, and workforce compliance requirements unique to the construction industry.
  • Serve as a hands-on payroll leader and resource for employees and management, resolving complex payroll issues, training end users, and driving continuous process improvements as the organization grows and scales.

Essential Skills
  • Experience with payroll management and Paycom implementation.
  • Knowledge of prevailing wage laws and union payroll processes.
  • Proven experience in administering employee benefits and leave programs.
  • Strong skills in developing payroll controls and reporting capabilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • 8+ years of payroll leadership or consulting experience.
  • Experience implementing a HRIS system, ideally Paycom.
  • Familiarity with construction industry payroll practices.

Work Environment
The payroll team is small, comprising around three people, and the current Payroll Manager is on leave. This role will serve as an interim consultant, with the potential for conversion to a full-time position based on performance and organizational needs. The larger accounting and finance team consists of approximately eight people, and the company has a workforce of 500-600 employees, with a strong focus on industrial projects. The company uses Spectrum as their ERP and LCP for certified payrolls. Flexible office presence is preferred, with a focus on finding the right candidate and determining a suitable schedule thereafter.
