Job description

This is a hybrid role based in San Diego, CA.
Why We're Here
Americans have never spent more on healthcare, and we've never trusted the system less. The problem isn't any one insurer, hospital, or pharmaceutical company; it's a system so complicated that nobody can see how money moves through it.
Turquoise is on a mission to restore trust in the U.S. healthcare system by eliminating its financial complexity - for providers, payers, and patients most of all.
The Role
We're looking for a creative storyteller and up-and-coming content creator who can take complex, dry concepts and turn them into content people actually want to consume. Think bite-sized documentaries for a general audience that explain how hospital pricing works, why your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) makes no sense, or what an insurance contract actually does. You'll work closely with our CEO and marketing team to produce multimedia content (video, audio/podcasts, social) that builds Turquoise's brand and educates the market.
This is a hybrid role based in San Diego, CA, reporting to the VP of Marketing with a strong dotted line to the CEO.
Responsibilities
  • Make complex healthcare topics easier to understand and way less boring. Take dense, nuanced ideas and turn them into multimedia assets (video, audio, static) that feel human, simple, and worth watching. You do not need to be a healthcare expert to apply. We will invest in getting you up to speed!
  • Own end-to-end production. Plan the shoot, set up cameras, light the scene, capture clean audio, direct the subject, and make sure the footage is usable in edit. You will work with CEOs, customers, and teammates and help them feel natural and confident on camera.
  • Edit for attention and clarity. Create hooks, tighten narratives, cut for pace, add captions, select music, incorporate graphics or motion, and adapt edits for different formats and platforms.
  • Find stories across the company. Work with marketing, brand, product, sales, customer success, and leadership to uncover moments worth sharing.
  • Bring creative ideas to the table. Pitch new formats, suggest stronger openings, spot standalone clips, and help us experiment with what works across social and video.
  • Use AI and creative tools to move faster. Experiment with tools that help with scripting, editing, motion, visuals, repurposing, and production workflows.
  • Manage multiple projects at once. Keep projects organized, communicate clearly, meet deadlines, and stay flexible as priorities shift.
Who You Are
The job is storytelling first, production second.
  • Excellent at distilling complex topics. You're intrinsically drawn to complex topics and you know how to make them legible to a non-expert. You find the analogy, cut the jargon, and make people feel smart for watching. (Think The Big Short.)
  • A natural-born explainer, with enough technical chops to produce engaging multimedia assets. You understand that a compelling story is a function of both content and form. Your instinct is both editorial (you know where the story should go) and technical (you know how to bring that story to life on video, audio, etc.)
  • Comfortable behind and in front of a camera. You can shoot, edit, and ship. The bar isn't Hollywood; it's "sounds good, looks intentional, holds attention." If you've made content for yourself or others, that counts.
  • San Diego-based (or ready to be). This role is in-person at our San Diego office, where you'll spend one-on-one time mindmelding and riffing ideas with our founder/CEO.

Bonus: Sketch comedy, improv, or education background.
How to Apply
With your application, you'll be asked to submit a 60-90 second video explaining a complex financial topic to a general audience meant for social media. You can be in the video or voice it over. Make it clear, engaging, and worth watching. Our CEO (a former video editor himself!) will review every submission that follows the rules.
Entirely AI-generated videos will be deprioritized. We want to get to know you as a human and see how you think - not what a model generates.
Benefits
  • Competitive pay with equity options
  • Stellar health care plan options (Medical, Dental & Vision), with FSA, DCFSA, & HSA options
  • Company-sponsored disability & life insurance
  • Unlimited PTO
  • 401(k) + 4% Matching
  • Fully remote work + flexible working hours
  • $750 work-from-home setup budget
  • Paid biannual in-person company summits
  • Quarterly $150 co-hanging stipend to meet up with coworkers
  • Monthly $100 health and wellness benefit
  • Generous paid family leave
  • Annual $1,200 learning & development stipend
