Job description

Overview
Unbound is an international nonprofit based in Kansas City, KS, founded by lay Catholics and grounded in the call to put the needs of the marginalized and vulnerable first. We build relationships of mutual respect that bridge cultural, religious, and economic divides, working alongside people of diverse faith traditions in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to challenge poverty in innovative ways. Through our unique model, supporters form personal connections with children, families, and communities, walking with them on their self-directed paths out of poverty. Our Mission is to support families and communities worldwide on their self-directed path out of poverty, and our vision is a world where all people have the opportunity, dignity, and resources to thrive.
We're seeking a Marketing Director to lead high-impact campaigns and drive acquisition, retention, and engagement across a diverse and evolving channel mix. Ideally suited for a strategic and performance-driven marketing leader, this role is responsible for executing integrated marketing strategies, optimizing performance across channels, and building the systems, partnerships, and team capabilities needed to fuel sustainable growth.
How You'll Make an Impact
Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing Strategy & Growth, the Marketing Director will play a critical role in driving performance across the full marketing funnel - leading flagship campaigns, scaling high-performing channels, and testing emerging ones to unlock new growth opportunities. This role will translate strategy into execution, ensuring campaigns are data-driven, audience-centered, and optimized in real time.
You'll partner closely with internal teams and external agencies to strengthen performance marketing, elevate storytelling, and create cohesive donor journeys across touchpoints. By combining strong operational leadership with analytical insight, you'll help maximize return on marketing investment while deepening engagement with supporters.
With a focus on innovation, team development, and continuous improvement, the Marketing Director will help build a high-performing marketing function that advances Unbound's mission and expands its global impact.
Responsibilities
Campaign Strategy & Execution:
  • Lead the development and execution of integrated acquisition, retention, and cross-sell campaigns across digital and offline channels.
  • Oversee flagship marketing initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and audience needs.
  • Drive go-to-market planning and execution with a focus on consistency, quality, and impact.

Performance Marketing & Optimization:
  • Direct performance across paid search, programmatic, paid social, CTV, email, direct mail, web, and events.
  • Use data, segmentation, and testing (A/B and multivariate) to optimize campaigns and improve ROI.
  • Partner with analysts to track and improve key performance metrics such as CPA, LTV, and conversion rates.
  • Build and scale emerging channels (e.g., TikTok, Reels, LinkedIn, podcasts, streaming) through structured pilot programs.

Technology, Data & Systems:
  • Own and evolve the marketing technology roadmap, including marketing automation and CRM systems.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to enhance marketing systems, data flows, and lead management processes.
  • Apply insights from analytics, research, and reporting to inform strategy and investment decisions

Content & Channel Collaboration:
  • Partner with Editorial and Multimedia teams to develop compelling, mission-aligned content sourced from the field.
  • Ensure content consistency with Unbound's brand voice and values across all channels.
  • Support website strategy and optimization to meet user needs and improve engagement and conversion.

Partnerships & Innovation:
  • Steward artist and creator partnerships from concept through execution.
  • Manage and optimize relationships with external agencies and media partners.
  • Identify and test new tools, platforms, and approaches to expand reach and impact.

Team Leadership & Development:
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing marketing team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Align team goals with broader departmental and organizational priorities.
  • Support talent development, succession planning, and team engagement.

Qualifications
  • 8-12 years of progressive marketing experience with demonstrated success in acquisition, retention, and performance marketing. Global experience is a plus.
  • Experience working in nonprofit, cause-driven, or subscription/recurring revenue models strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead integrated, multi-channel campaigns and deliver measurable business results.
  • Strong expertise in performance marketing and marketing technology, including CRM, marketing automation, analytics, and attribution.
  • Experience leveraging data, segmentation, and testing to drive optimization and ROI.
  • Demonstrated success managing agencies, partnerships, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience developing and managing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or related field; advanced degree or certifications preferred.
  • Proficiency in tools such as Google Analytics, Salesforce, and marketing automation platforms.
  • Ability to travel occasionally. Bilingual in Spanish/English or other relevant languages a plus.
  • Passion, curiosity, and a mission-driven mindset aligned with Unbound's values.

Our Commitment to You
At Unbound, you'll find more than a job - you'll find purpose. Your work will empower families worldwide, while you grow within a collaborative, mission-driven culture. We offer competitive benefits, hybrid flexibility, and the chance to make a meaningful impact every day.

  • 12 paid holidays and one floating holiday to use on a date of your choosing. Additionally, 1 volunteer day.
