Job description

Vice President of Content
Reports to: President & CEO
Hybrid - Must live locally
About Lehigh Valley Public Media
Lehigh Valley Public Media (LVPM) is the region's nonprofit public media organization, serving the community through journalism, storytelling, and shared experiences across platforms including PBS39, Lehigh Valley News, digital products, and live events.
In a world full of noise, LVPM focuses on what matters to life in the Lehigh Valley and helps people understand it clearly. We provide fact-based reporting on the issues shaping the region while also creating opportunities for community members, partners, and organizations to share perspectives, experiences, and ideas.
Our work extends beyond content creation. We bring people together through conversations, events, and partnerships that reflect the full breadth of the community. Across everything we do, the goal is to ensure people feel informed, represented, and connected to one another.
LVPM is in the midst of a transformation to operate as a unified media organization-integrating digital, broadcast, audio, and in-person experiences into a cohesive, audience-centered model designed for long-term relevance, growth, and impact.
Position Summary
The Vice President of Content is LVPM's senior content and editorial leader, responsible for defining, building, and scaling a modern, integrated content organization across platforms.
Reporting to the CEO, this role oversees journalism, content production, and community-generated content, ensuring all content is strategically aligned, clearly governed, and effectively distributed to grow audience, deepen engagement, and support revenue. This role works closely with our VP Product Technology to develop new solutions that engage the local community.
This leader will operate with a builder's mindset; bringing experience from high-growth or transformational environments to design new workflows, integrate systems, and establish a scalable model for content creation and distribution.
The VP of Content will also bring a forward-looking, AI-enabled approach to the work, leveraging emerging technologies and new media formats to expand reach, improve efficiency, and position LVPM for the future of media.
A central priority of this role is expanding and managing community participation in content, creating structured, credible, and scalable ways for the public to contribute while maintaining editorial standards and trust.
Key Accountabilities
Strategy & Organizational Leadership
? Define and lead LVPM's integrated content strategy across digital, broadcast, audio, and live platforms
? Build and scale a unified content organization, including structure, workflows, and operating model
? Translate organizational strategy into clear content priorities, sequencing, and execution plans
? Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO on audience growth, engagement, and revenue alignment
? Lead organizational change in how content is planned, created, and distributed
Community-Generated Content & Participation
? Design and scale a structured approach to community-generated content across platforms
? Establish clear standards, workflows, and governance for submissions, contributors, and partnerships
? Expand participation through community contributors, local organizations, and partner networks
? Ensure all community content is credible, well-managed, and aligned with editorial standards
? Build repeatable systems that allow community participation to scale without compromising trust
Journalism & Content Strategy
? Lead LVPM's journalism strategy, ensuring accuracy, independence, and relevance
? Set priorities that focus on issues that matter most to the Lehigh Valley
? Ensure content provides clarity, context, and usefulness to the audience
? Integrate journalism across newsletters, broadcast, digital platforms, and live experiences
Content Production
? Oversee a focused portfolio of local content production aligned with strategic priorities
? Ensure efficient use of resources, prioritizing high-impact formats and distribution
? Align production decisions with audience growth and engagement goals rather than volume
Integrated Media Model & Distribution
? Ensure content is planned and executed as part of a unified, cross-platform system
? Align digital, broadcast, audio, and live experiences into a cohesive audience journey
? Introduce and scale new media formats and distribution strategies to expand reach
? Leverage audience data and insights to inform decisions about content and channels
Technology, AI & Innovation
? Integrate AI and emerging technologies into content workflows and operations
? Improve efficiency, scalability, and quality through technology-enabled processes
? Identify and implement new tools and platforms that enhance content creation and distribution
? Ensure the organization remains competitive in a rapidly evolving media landscape
Revenue & Partnerships
? Partner with Development and Membership teams to align content with revenue opportunities
? Support sponsorship, underwriting, and partnership strategies through content integration
? Identify new opportunities to grow audience-supported and partner-supported content initiatives
Leadership Expectations
? Lead with clarity, accountability, and a bias toward execution
? Build and mentor a high-performing, collaborative team
? Drive change in how work gets done, not just what gets produced
? Raise the standard of performance, bringing best-in-class practices to the organization
? Operate effectively in ambiguity and lead teams through transformation
Qualifications
? Ten (10) + years of leadership experience in content, media, journalism, or a related field
? Proven track record of building and scaling content strategy, teams, and execution
? Experience operating in high-growth, start-up, or transformational environments
? Demonstrated success leading integrated, multi-platform content organizations
? Experience developing and managing community-driven or participatory content models
? Strong editorial judgment and understanding of audience behavior and engagement
? Fluency in new media formats and digital-first content strategies
? Experience leveraging AI and emerging technologies in content creation or distribution
? Ability to lead organizational change and redesign workflows at scale
? Track record of raising standards and introducing best practices within teams
? Experience aligning content strategy with revenue and organizational goals

The Vice President of Content will shape how the organization serves the Lehigh Valley ensuring that residents not only have access to clear, reliable information, but also see their experiences reflected and have meaningful ways to participate.
This role is central to building a modern public media organization that connects journalism, community voices, and shared experiences across platforms; designed to grow, adapt, and serve the region for the long term.
