Job description

The Montana Department of Agriculture is accepting applications for a Pesticide Container Recycling Driver, located in Helena, MT.  This is a seasonal 20-40 hour per week position.  

The mission of the Department of Agriculture is Serving Montana Agriculture and growing prosperity under the Big Sky.

Job Overview:

This position coordinates the collection of plastic agricultural chemical containers, by driving a truck and trailer combination to collect containers and grind the containers at regional granulator sites. The incumbent will travel throughout the state collecting and processing plastic pesticide containers while coordinating with recycling site managers about pick-up dates and times. This is a seasonal position that operates May-November, weather depending.

Duties include:

  • Read maps and follow written or verbal geographic directions.
  • Coordinate delivery and pick-ups to maximize efficiency.
  • Picks-up and delivers supplies and equipment from vendors
  • Store equipment and supplies, complete requisitions, and maintain records.
  • Verify the contents of delivered inventory loads with paperwork.
  • Load and unload vehicle.
  • May perform forklift operation.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

  • All employees are required to create and maintain a safe and secure working environment by adhering to MDA safety, security, and health requirements; as well as attend any necessary training and implement best practices in order to mitigate injury, illness, and loss prevention.
  • Travel across Montana to perform work up to 90% of the time. Weekly, multiple overnight stays will be required.
  • Job duties performed while wearing personal protective equipment including hearing and eye protection, coveralls, and boots that can sustain pesticides and pesticide residues.
  • Position requires standing, bending, and stooping repeatedly and for long periods of time. Repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required. Long periods of sitting will result from driving long distances throughout Montana.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Initiative to work in a self-directed and proactive manner.
  • Skilled in driving in all weather conditions that may be encountered in Montana, including putting chains on the truck in snowy conditions.
  • Competent in using and maintaining a variety of hand tools and large equipment such generators and granulators.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and how to implement them around large equipment.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality work output.
  • Adapts to change in the work environment, manages competing priorities, and deals with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
     


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Clean driving record - to be checked prior to hire.
  • Requires safe and effective operation of state vehicles.
  • Must observe safety protocols.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be substituted.
