The Director Consumer Loan Underwriting will supervise the Consumer Loan Underwriting Team while providing quality, consistent and timely underwriting and decisioning of Consumer and Indirect loans in compliance with Centra’s policies and procedures and credit union regulations. Maintain proactive communication and collaboration with Retail Lending, Dealer Partners, and other Lines of Business. Develop and recommend strategic direction for the consumer loan underwriting department, focusing on optimizing underwriting processes for credit quality, efficiency, and profitability. Reviews and recommends automated underwriting decision criteria and policies to help achieve budgeted loan growth and compliance with all loan regulations.   • Manages and supervises the Consumer Underwriting Team while providing timely, quality, and consistent underwriting and decisioning of Consumer and Indirect loans.
  • Assist in maintaining credit quality targets through proper underwriting controls adhering to lending policies and procedure while maintaining the credit union’s Board-approved Credit Risk Appetite.
  • Reviews automated decision criteria and policies to achieve budget loan growth goals and operational efficiency, all while maintaining compliance with all lending regulations and recommends revisions to said attributes when necessary.
  • Strategically manage, execute, and monitor all preapproved offers of credit, looking for ways to enhance the current preapproval environment while scanning the environment for enhanced alternative vendor solutions.
  • Develop and recommend strategic directions for the consumer loan underwriting department, focusing on optimizing our underwriting processes for credit quality, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive portfolio reports that track and analyze performance metrics for Consumer and Indirect Lending, informing management and for use in developing and executing strategic decisions.
  • Manage Indirect Dealer Relations, Indirect reporting & Indirect portfolio concentration. Reporting to leadership on any indirect trend, challenges or changes.
  • Develops and updates all procedures regarding underwriting functions, guidelines, and applicable workflows. Performs on-going reviews, ensuring they meet the needs of the credit union and complies with State and Federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively with other lines of business, leadership, and the Retail team. Identifying tactics to better streamline the Consumer Lending process and to improve Member and Team Member Experience.
  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of Consumer Underwriting. Supervisory duties include performance management, training, and development, and demonstrating and cultivating Centra’s Vision, Mission, Culture, and Core Values.  
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - (EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE WILL BE CONSIDERED): 
  • Associate's Degree in Related Field

  • Five years to eight years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
