A loan underwriter is responsible for approving or denying loan applications. It’s your job to perform a risk assessment on each applicant by evaluating their income, credit history, and assets. You are responsible for ensuring each approved borrower has the financial capability to repay their mortgage or loan. Job duties involve reviewing loan applications, analyzing credit data and financial information, and preparing risk analysis reports. You then communicate your decision directly to the lender to explain exactly how and why you approved the application. You also have a say in the total amount and terms of the loan.
