Overview
The Consumer Underwriter I is responsible for quality and sound decision making. The Consumer Underwriter I effectively execute the underwriting processes, reviews complex consumer loan applications for all consumer loan types including Indirect Lending. Will perform work using considerable independence, judgment, and discretion in making credit decisions for members seeking loans.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure effective decision-making on loan denials, counteroffers, approvals, cash flow analysis, credit underwriting criteria and the assessment of PCU loan product alternatives in reaching and making quality loan decisions
  • Demonstrates Results Orientation in the review of applications, credit histories and assessing the financial outlook of applicants to ensure accuracy of information and to make sound lending decisions within authority levels to determine approval, contingent approval, counter offer or denial.
  • Monitor your Quality Control findings to you are within PCU's error tolerance
  • Execute pipeline and service level commitments for retail and digital channels
  • Utilizes professional and friendly communication in providing phone support for incoming lending calls, and when discussing loan options and procedures for set-up with members
  • Demonstrates personal accountability in maintaining high service levels to auto dealers participating in the indirect lending program
  • Identifies and works to eliminate root causes of lending issues or concerns when supporting and assisting branches and other departments
  • Displays a sense of urgency by efficiently informing staff and members of loan requirements and matters affecting approval; and when reviewing and rendering a decision on loan applications assigned to Underwriting Queue
  • Takes initiative in seeking guidance and approval on policy exceptions
  • Exhibits personal accountability by accurately documenting loan application decisions within the loan origination system with appropriate comments to ensure that loan processors are able to easily move forward with all loan bookings
  • Demonstrates Results Orientation by consistently delivering an excellent internal and external member experience by displaying patience and tact in dealing with co-workers and members
  • Committed to self-improvement by maintaining proficiency in understanding consumer lending regulatory requirements (Regulation Z, Regulation B, Fair Credit Reporting Act)
  • Demonstrates creative solutions and process improvements in identifying cross-selling opportunities and appropriately approves members for those products
  • Displays a sense of urgency when obtaining information to process loan applications, i.e., verification of income and credit reports
  • Assist in reviewing Loan Addendums to ensure post-funding changes are accurate
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in consumer underwriting and/or Consumer Lending, financial analysis, or lending background preferably in a high-volume lending center
  • Experience, knowledge and training in financial statement and tax return analysis typically resulting from a combination of education in accounting, financial and/or credit analysis or related areas

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time

Target Base Pay
$28.24 - $33.21/ hr
