Job description

Primoris Energy Services is seeking a Director of Technical Services to provide enterprise-level leadership across field engineering, construction technology, and construction data analytics. This highly visible role partners with executive, division, and project leadership to standardize execution practices, advance technology adoption, and improve project performance across industrial, power, civil, and water markets. Ideal for a seasoned construction leader, this position offers the opportunity to influence how work is executed at scale while driving safer, more predictable, and data-driven project delivery.

Position Summary

The Director of Technical Services provides enterprise-level leadership for Field Engineering, Construction Technology, and Construction Data Analytics across Primoris Energy Services’ four operating divisions: Industrial, Power Generation, Civil Site Development, and Water & Mechanical.

Operating within a matrix organization, this role functions as a corporate technical leader responsible for standardizing execution practices, enabling field teams, and improving project performance through disciplined engineering, technology adoption, and data-driven insights. The Director partners closely with division and project leadership to support safe, efficient, and predictable project delivery while respecting division-level accountability for results.

Functional Leadership Scope

The Director of Technical Services has functional responsibility for:

  • Field Engineering (field engineers and project engineering support)
  • Construction Technology (BIM/VDC, digital tools, methods, and innovation)
  • Construction Data Analytics (reporting, dashboards, Power BI, performance insights)

These functions support all divisions and projects but do not replace project or division management authority.

Key Responsibilities

Field Engineering Leadership

  • Provide functional leadership and oversight of field engineers and project engineering resources across all divisions.
  • Establish consistent field engineering standards, roles, and expectations.
  • Support constructability reviews, work sequencing, temporary works concepts, and execution planning.
  • Act as the senior technical escalation point for field and project engineering challenges.
  • Partner with operations leadership to ensure field engineering efforts directly support project safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.

Construction Technology & Technical Innovation

  • Lead enterprise construction technology strategy, including BIM/VDC, digital delivery tools, and execution-support systems.
  • Drive adoption of improved construction methods, workflows, and technologies that enhance field productivity and reduce risk.
  • Support initiatives such as prefabrication, modularization, and work packaging where applicable.
  • Partner with operations, preconstruction, and project teams to ensure technology solutions are practical, scalable, and field-ready.
  • Govern technology standards to avoid fragmentation across divisions and projects.

Construction Data Analytics & Performance Insights

  • Provide leadership over construction data analytics, including dashboards, KPIs, and performance reporting.
  • Oversee development and use of Power BI and related analytics tools to support project and executive decision-making.
  • Partner with Project Controls, Operations, and Finance to align data definitions, metrics, and reporting.
  • Promote consistent use of data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure data solutions are focused on execution insight—not just reporting.

Technical Governance & Risk Management

  • Establish and maintain technical governance frameworks supporting consistent execution across divisions.
  • Support identification and mitigation of technical and execution risk.
  • Partner with Quality and Safety teams to ensure technical requirements align with safety and quality objectives.
  • Support commissioning, turnover, and closeout processes as applicable to project type.

Matrix Leadership & Talent Development

  • Serve as a functional leader in a matrix organization, influencing project and division teams without direct line authority.
  • Mentor and develop technical leaders, field engineers, technology specialists, and analytics staff.
  • Support workforce planning and capability development for technical services functions.
  • Foster collaboration and alignment across divisions while respecting unique market and execution needs.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience in industrial, power generation, and civil construction.
  • Proven experience leading field engineering, technical services, or execution-support functions across multiple projects or divisions.
  • Strong understanding of construction execution, constructability, means & methods, and field operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead functional teams in a matrix environment.
  • Experience partnering with operations and project leadership at senior levels.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed (approximately 1 week per month).

Preferred

  • Experience with construction technology platforms (e.g., AutoDesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, P6, BIM/VDC tools).
  • Experience with construction analytics and visualization tools such as Power BI.
  • Background in a large, diversified contractor or EPC organization.

Working Conditions

  • Office-based role located in Houston / Pearland, TX, with regular project site visits.
  • Exposure to active construction environments.
  • Must comply with all Primoris safety policies and procedures.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation paid weekly
  • Best-in-class; Medical, Dental, Vision, and LTD/STD
  • 401(k) with company match, vested day-one
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan [ESPP]
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Paid Time Off, Holiday Pay, and Community Service Paid Time Off
  • Pet Coverage "For our Furry Friends"
  • Legal Assistance Coverage
  • Award winning safety programs
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement
