Job description


Global Construction is seeking an experienced Construction Accounting Manager to oversee the company's day-to-day accounting operations while supporting the administrative functions of a growing commercial general contractor.
This is a hands-on role for an accounting professional who enjoys working in the details while helping improve systems, processes, and financial visibility across the organization. The successful candidate will work closely with executive leadership, project managers, operations, and our outside CPA to ensure accurate financial reporting, disciplined job costing, and efficient office operations.
Direct experience in commercial construction accounting is required.
Requirements
Construction Accounting:
  • Manage the company's accounting functions using QuickBooks Enterprise.
  • Process and oversee payroll.
  • Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Maintain the general ledger and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Assist with budgeting, cash flow reporting, and financial analysis.

Project Accounting:
  • Maintain accurate project job costing.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
  • Monitor project profitability and identify cost variances.
  • Track retain-age, change orders, committed costs, and project billings.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure financial information accurately reflects project performance.

Billing:
  • Prepare and submit AIA G702/G703 pay applications.
  • Manage progress billing and change-order billing.
  • Track receivables and support collection efforts.
  • Ensure billing documentation is complete and submitted on time.

Office & Administrative Management:
  • Oversee day-to-day office administration.
  • Maintain company records and accounting documentation.
  • Coordinate banking, insurance, licenses, and corporate administrative requirements.
  • Manage office vendors, supplies, and administrative services.
  • Support executive leadership with administrative and operational needs.

Internal Controls:
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting procedures.
  • Monitor financial transactions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with year-end CPA requests and financial reviews.
  • Help strengthen internal controls and accounting processes.

Required:
  • 5+ years of accounting experience.
  • Direct construction or trade accounting experience.
  • Strong QuickBooks Enterprise experience.
  • Payroll experience.
  • Experience with construction job costing.
  • Experience preparing and maintaining WIP schedules.
  • Experience preparing AIA G702/G703 pay applications.
  • Strong AP, AR, and reconciliation experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred:
  • Commercial general contractor accounting experience.
  • Experience with Buildertrend or similar construction management software.
  • Experience with retain-age, lien waivers, subcontractor accounting, and 1099 reporting.
  • Accounting degree or equivalent construction accounting experience.

What Success Looks Like:
Within the first 90 days, the successful candidate will:
  • Maintain accurate and timely accounting records.
  • Complete monthly close within established deadlines.
  • Produce reliable WIP and project financial reports.
  • Manage payroll, AP, AR, and billing accurately.
  • Improve visibility into project profitability and cash flow.
  • Build strong working relationships with Operations, Project Management, and Leadership.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient accounting and administrative function.
