Job description

Job Title: House Manager & Family Assistant (with Meal Prep and Childcare Support)
Location: Lake Oswego, OR 97034
Employment Type: Part-time (approximately 30 hours per week)
Proposed Start Date: ASAP
Compensation: $29-33/hour, based on experience
Requirements:
  • Maintain a smoke-free environment
  • Reliable transportation
  • Comfortable with light childcare supervision for date nights (approximately weekly)

Proposed Schedule:
  • Daily presence with flexible timing (candidate and family to coordinate schedule)
  • Heavier concentration and deeper project work on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
  • Weekly date night childcare coverage (1 evening per week, typically Friday or Saturday)
  • Flexible availability for additional support on sick days if they fall on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday
  • Approximately 30 hours per week total

About the Family: We are a close, thoughtful family of five living in Lake Oswego, Oregon, in a 2700 SF home with three young children (ages 5, 3, and 1.5) and two working parents. One parent is an entrepreneur running a nearby brick-and-mortar business. The other parent supercommutes to the Bay Area Tuesday morning through Thursday night, and works from home on Monday and Friday. Our three children attend a nearby Montessori school and bring diverse energy, ages, and developmental needs into our home.
We manage two dietary restrictions in our home: one child has a peanut allergy (we keep peanuts away from her and are mindful during food preparation), and one parent is gluten intolerant. We also regularly host a visiting grandparent who comes for 6-week stretches at a time, adding another loving layer to our family dynamic.
We value order, systems, and thoughtful rhythms that create a calm, organized home where everyone can thrive. Tuesday through Thursday are our most demanding days, and we appreciate support that helps our home feel grounded and well cared for during that time.
Who You Are: We are looking for someone who is organized, proactive, and detail-oriented-someone who takes pride in creating systems that make household life flow smoothly. You notice what needs to be done before being asked, take ownership of responsibilities, and follow through independently. You thrive in an environment where you are empowered to make decisions and suggest improvements. You have a growth mindset, good judgment, and genuinely enjoy working within established systems while also contributing fresh ideas.
Most importantly, you understand that your role plays a meaningful part in helping our family thrive by keeping our home running smoothly, our children well-fed and clothed, and our daily operations organized and calm.
Key Responsibilities:
Household Management & Organization
  • Maintain household organization systems (closets, storage, pantry, toys)
  • Reset and tidy rooms daily; maintain overall neatness, ensure home is prepped for cleaning services
  • Conduct seasonal swaps (clothing, dรฉcor, bedding, etc.)
  • Prepare for family events, holidays, and guest stays
  • Prepare and coordinate donation drop offs and pick ups
  • Support packing/unpacking for travel or seasonal transitions

Kitchen & Meal Operations
  • Plan menus and prepare healthy dinners and snacks for the family
  • Prepare and pack school lunches for the children
  • Grocery shopping and meal-related errands
  • Follow dietary needs and family preferences (one peanut allergy, one gluten intolerance)
  • Manage pantry inventory and restocking
  • Regular fridge and pantry cleanouts for expired items
  • Clean kitchen post-prep and maintain kitchen tidiness (we have a weekly housekeeper, so this is managing daily cleanup from meals and kids eating)
Inventory Management & Errands
  • Track and restock pantry, fridge, toiletries, household supplies
  • Create and manage running household supply lists
  • Coordinate and manage household orders (Amazon, Costco, Target, etc.)
  • Run errands: grocery shopping, returns, dry cleaning, gift shopping
  • Handle package unpacking, box breakdown

Children's Wardrobe & Clothing Management
  • Wash, dry, fold, and organize children's clothing
  • Treat stains and manage special care for delicate items
  • Monitor sizing and notice when children are outgrowing items
  • Manage seasonal clothing swaps and prepare clothing for the upcoming season
  • Organize and maintain children's closets, restocking as needed
  • Prepare items for consignment, manage consignment logistics, and coordinate donations

Package & Returns Management
  • Receive, unpack, and organize incoming deliveries
  • Process returns and manage shipping logistics
  • Handle box breakdown and package organization

Playroom & Space Management
  • Maintain playroom organization and toy rotation
  • Manage household items that need to be put away or reorganized; create and maintain systems for organizing things throughout the home
  • Daily tidying and reset of common living areas
  • Organize and maintain household systems (closets, storage, entryways, mudroom, garage)

Laundry & Household Linens
  • Manage family laundry (clothing, bedding, towels)
  • Rotate bedding and refresh towels
  • Keep laundry areas tidy and well-stocked with supplies
Deep Cleaning & Special Projects
  • Tackle occasional deep cleans (cleaning out fridge)
  • Maintain and refresh specific zones (entryways, garage, mudroom)
  • Clean humidifiers, refilling or changing filters
  • Organize special projects: toy storage, seasonal decorations, gear rotation

Date Night Childcare
  • Provide light supervision and childcare for date nights (1 evening per week)
  • Be familiar with children's routines and preferences

Flexible Support
  • Provide additional support on days when children are home sick from school, particularly on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday
