The Manager, Energy Systems Operations provides overall management of Energy Management and Controls System (EMCS), Lighting Controls and Utility Metering systems. Provides project development and project management by designing projects, writing specifications, preparing construction documents and managing outside contractors pertaining to utility energy systems. Provides supervision of EMCS Technicians. Identifies, documents, details and justify energy conservation, efficiency and optimization opportunities across campus.
Job Duties
Responsibility Area: Energy Management & Documentation Duties:
Maintain and analyze data bases to provide management reports on energy usage, to determine the effective of various systems, draw conclusions to recommend energy conservation measures, and to provide other reports as required.
Percentage Of Time 10 Essential Function: Yes Responsibility Area: Implement Energy Saving Strategies Duties:
  • Utilizing a thorough understanding of cutting edge technologies and trends; identify, document, detail and justify energy conservation, efficiency and optimization opportunities across campus.
  • Manage consultants and contractors in the planning, development and implementation of energy conservation projects.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director, ensure energy efficiency technologies and concepts are being implemented on campus.
  • Maintain and analyze data bases to provide management reports on energy usage, to determine the effective of various systems, draw conclusions to recommend energy conservation measures, and to provide other reports as required.
Percentage Of Time 30 Essential Function: Yes Responsibility Area: Project Management Duties:
  • Project management to include the development/management of project schedules through time management tools (i.e. Gant Charts)
  • In cooperation with consultants and contractors, repair existing systems. Design, install and implement new systems.
  • Continually assess the efficiency of systems and identify the need for any new strategies or systems.
  • Act as a resource to the UNO community
Percentage Of Time 35 Essential Function: Yes Responsibility Area: Supervision/Training Duties:
  • Supervise, prioritize, instruct, coordinate, plan and inspect work of the EMCS technicians to ensure efficient, effective, and timely support services.
  • Review applications, conduct interviews and make recommendations for hire. Participate in the HR process of coaching, corrective actions and termination.
  • Develop training and mentoring programs to assure that a path for advancement and succession management is in place.

Required Education
Associate's degree in a building HVAC systems related area of study such as HVAC Systems Technology, Electronics, Controls, etc.
Required Experience
Minimum of five years' experience in the design and installation of HVAC - EMS systems to include project and personnel management. Experience in energy management.
Required License/Certification
Valid Driver's License

Bachelor's degree in an Engineering, Construction or technical related field.
Preferred Experience
Prior experience with Niagara/Tridum, BACnet & Siemens systems. Experience with lighting controls and utility metering systems, along with knowledge on integrating these systems together. Experience with EnergyCAP software.
