Job description

Position Description: The Assistant Coach reports directly to the Head Coach and is responsible for assisting the Head Coach as directed. This position also serves as a Campus Safety Authority as required by federal law in the Clery Act. Position Responsibilities: 50.00% - Assist the Head Coach with sport specific instruction related to performance enhancement of your student athletes including physical health, teamwork, and safety. 10.00% - Be in compliance with conference regulations and NJCAA By-Laws. 10.00% - Assist in the recruitment and training of quality student-athletes for successful competition. Public relations and promotional activities appropriate to the position as assigned by the Head Coach. Monitoring and supporting the academic success of student-athletes. 8.00% - Assist with travel, meal and motel arrangements. Budget and records management. 10.00% - Help develop a practice schedule and implement the schedule. 2.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned. 10.00% - Coordination of athletic department functions, etc. as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director. Manage allocated scholarship funds in accordance with all applicable conference/financial aid/institutional rules and regulations and assist student athletes with awareness of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements relevant to continued aid eligibility. Expectations: 1. Provide professional and positive supportive working relationships and consultaion with: Maintenance department, Academic advisors, Admissions department, Housing director, Financial Aid department, Student Development, Athletic department (coaches, athletic director and support staff). 2. Adhere to a schedule of regular office hours; giving consideration to recruiting, playing dates, practice schedules and other items that might cause the assistant coach to be unavailable. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - Coaching experience at an advanced level, i.e.: high school, college level. Education - Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience as determined by the Athletic Director. Other Skills - Knowledge and ability to discipline, communicate with and motivate student athletes.
Knowledge of sport and how to teach it.
Knowledge and understanding of all NJCAA and Jayhawk Conference rules and regulations.
Classroom management, teaching and student assessment techniques.
Good human relations skills as it pertains to recruiting.
Good public relations skills as it pertains to promoting the program and athletic department.
Effective communication as it pertains to teaching the sport and working with those who come into contact with the team and the athletic department. Physical Requirements: The work requires moderate physical exertion such as long periods of standing, repetitively lifting lightweight objects with frequent bending or stooping, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as computer, printers or record boxes. Occasionally lifts heavy objects (over 50 pounds). Job requires average agility and dexterity. Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office or classroom. Regular exposure to unfavorable environments such as weather.
