Fall, Assistant Coach - Girls Varsity Field Hockey
POSITION OVERVIEW 
Under direction of the Athletic Director, the Coach is responsible to develop and sustain a program for students to achieve a high level of skill in applicable sport fitness, and the development of an appreciations for discipline, hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position.  This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:





  • Coach individual participants in mechanics and skills necessary for achievement in competitive high school applicable sport.
  • Coordinate and supervise a regular schedule of practice
  • Encourage sportsmanship and team unity and enforce all sportsmanship guidelines
  • Enforce discipline of contest, school, conference and state rules and regulations
  • Supervise assistant coaches and enhance the professional development (if applicable).
  • Oversee the safety conditions and accountability issues involving students and facilities located both on ASD Properties and at off campus facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records of uniforms, equipment, individual and team statistics, and accomplishments.
  • Submit required forms and athletic documents.
  • Recommend purchase of equipment and supplies
  • Coordinate and develop and effective and sustainable fundraising plan with Athletic Director that is easily communicated with administration, players, coaches, media and community.

  • Attend required coaches' clinics and State and conference selection meetings if applicable.
  • Attend required caoches' meetings and Athletic Booster's Association meetings if applicable.
  • Develop a total program for grades 9 through 12.
  • Provide and display a willingness to work with Athletics Department Administration, staff, student-athletes, and parents with a dynamic practice and meet schedule. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Below are the qualifications for this position:

  • Experience coaching/participating in applicable sport at the high school or collegiate level. Prior coaching experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of NFHS applicable sport Rules, DIAA Rules and Regulations, Blue Hen Conference Regulations, and ASD Policies and Procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic First Aid / Athletic Training Practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, coaches and community using the APPROVED Appoquinimink School District Communication Methods.
  • Excellent organizational skills

 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. 
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment.  Work may require the ability to move around the school, gymnasiums, or athletic fields.  Duties may be performed away from school.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

  • All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following:  proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver's License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
