Position Description
Join a third-generation, family-owned commercial construction company with over 70 years of excellence and a strong commitment to community. We're seeking an adaptable, driven Concrete Finisher who thrives in a team-oriented, professional environment.
General Responsibilities:
Responsible for adhering to and supporting all MK safety policies and practices; performing a wide variety of duties and tasks involving preparing worksites, building forms and accurately and properly installing finished concrete according to specifications; operating various power tools and equipment; preparing and maintaining clean and safe work sites; handling various materials; assisting other trade and craft team members and supervisory personnel; communicating and collaborating with other team members, owners, suppliers or subcontractors; supporting and adhering to all company operating and regulatory compliance-focused policies and practices.
Essential Duties:
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of the company's commitment to a safe working environment.
  • Performs a wide variety of duties relating to the installation of finished concrete on MKC concrete construction projects.
  • Actively supports communications and relationship building activities with owners, suppliers, General Contractors, subcontractors, etc.; assists in building trust and confidence by exhibiting professional, competent and friendly image.
  • Proactively, professionally and with a team-focused attitude collaborates and communicates with construction site teams, management and supervisory personnel and team members throughout the company to integrate activities and achieve goals.
  • Complies with established company operating policies and procedures in order to maintain adequate controls and to support the adherence to outside regulatory requirements.
  • Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of sexual harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the work place.
  • Responds to inquiries or requests relating to his/her particular area within given time frames and within established policy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
In depth understanding of M-K safety policies and practices supporting a committed safety culture and safe working environment; basic reading, writing, and grammar skills; basic mathematical skills and analytical skills sufficient to meet required finishing duties; proficient skills with tools, methods, materials and equipment used in placing, smoothing, finishing and curing concrete in commercial construction; fundamental abilities to build forms for concrete construction; basic skills associated with understanding elevations for placing concrete; collaborative and generative attitudes and abilities toward working as part of a team; visual and auditory skills; valid driver's license and willingness to travel to different projects daily with finishing crew, as required by finishing schedules.
Education/Experience:
  • A High School Diploma or GED; general training and education focused on the use of concrete mixing, placing and finishing equipment and processes; completion of apprenticeship program and /or journeyman experience; completion of M-K Academy training program for Concrete Finisher.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in comparable positions.

Physical Demand and Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Physical demands: The Concrete Finisher position is physical in nature and requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reaching with hands and arms; climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Visioning abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Job requires ability to perform tasks on all areas and aspects of construction project, the ability to climb ladders for heights of up to 60 feet, and crawl for distances of 50 feet. Job requires ability to work with tools, lumber and materials and the ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 80 lbs. for 50 feet.
  • Work Environment: Almost all of the work of the Concrete Finisher is performed on construction job sites, where weather, material and equipment handling, noise and other job-related hazards are unavoidable.
